Mike paced back and forth in front of the gate while he was freaking out completely. Dr. Brenner and the guards had vanished half an hour or maybe even an hour ago (he had a feeling they knew about the breakout somehow) then Joyce came out of the gate, dragging along with her a beaten-up Billy who appeared like he was fighting to stay alive. When he asked where Hopper and the others were she explained to him that Hopper went after El and Will because something attacked them. She couldn't stay around to give him full details because she needed to help Billy get patched up.
So now Mike was pacing around the gate, hoping Hopper would arrive soon because he was sure he was going to die of a panic attack aright about now. Part of him wanted to say 'screw Hopper' and go in after them; however, he didn't know where to look. He might end up lost and would not help anyone and put himself in danger. He reluctantly decided it would be best to stay put and pray they get here soon.
As if his prayers had finally been answered, he saw the opening parted as Hopper can rushing out with Will draped over his shoulder.
"What took you guys so long?" He spatted out. He didn't mean for it to sound me or ungrateful, but he was worried about them and the waiting had been killing him. His eyes scanned around when he noticed El wasn't with them.
"Where's El?" He asked, looking at Hopper. Hopper could barely look him in the eye as tears were beginning to form in them.
"Hop, where's El?" Mike asked again.
"El--" Hopper started before his mouth shut; his throat cramping up, wondering how in the hell was he even going to tell Mike, he wasn't going to be seeing his friend anymore... hell, he didn't even know how he was going to be telling all the kids about it.
"Hop! Where's El?" Mike repeated, a bit harsher this time.
"El-- she... she didn't... she didn't make it." Hopper finally confessed. Mike's eyes widened. You could hear his heart shattering into pieces. He couldn't control himself as he found himself banging his fists against Hopper's chest as hard as he could.
"How could you?! You were supposed to bring them back! All of them! You promised! You promised!" Mike screamed at him as he kept hitting his fists against Hopper.
"I know... I know... I know I said that, but somethings end up out of people's control." Hopper tried to explained, but even himself did not like the thought of that. He would give anything to bring El back to them. Mike kept punching at Hopper almost like he was hoping to leave as many dents as he could.
"Mike... that's enough. Mike! I need you to stop! We need to get Will here some medical help. Do you know if this place has a medical base or an area to get medical assistant?" Hopper ordered Mike. It seemed to calm him down as his attention shifted to Will, who was draped over Hopper's shoulder. He could see Will was in bad shape and needed as much aid as Billy needed. Mike swallowed his anger as he and Hopper began making their way out of the lab to try and find a medic room.
"Did Billy and Joyce make it back alright?" Hopper asked, curious to know if they had found their way back.
"Yeah, they came back about--" Mike started until they paused. They stared down the hallway, horrified. The walls were covered in splatters of blood while pools of it flooded across the ground; bodies lingered all over with their limbs twisted into uncomfortable angles while some had been torn opened with their organs spilled out.
"What happened here?" Mike asked while they carefully walked through so they didn't stepped on the people.
"I don't know. Did anything else come out of gate?" Hopper asked him while he held his gun out in front of him.
"No! No one or anything came out except Joyce and Billy." Mike said, defensively. Before Hopper could explain to Mike that he wasn't attacking him, their attention shifted when they heard something that sounded like chewing. They turned their heads to see a creature leaning over another body as it was eating them apart.
"Shit." Mike mumbled to himself as he lifted his hand and held Hopper's. Slowly Mike began to turn them invisible as can be. They watched as it lifted its head up from the body then turned its head towards them. Its jaws opened a bit while it began to make its way over towards them. Hopper held his gun out, readying himself to fire in case it somehow could see them. As it stood up onto its hind legs with its arm raised up like it was about to strike when it shot his head to the side.
Mike and Hopper looked bewildered, wondering what it could have heard since they could have sworn there had been nothing to cause its attention. The creature looked in their direction one last time before darting in the other direction. Mike let go of Hopper's hand as he took a few steps towards where the monster had vanished off.
"Where do you think it's going?" Mike asked.
"I don't know, but let's not wait around to find out." Hopper advised while motioning for Mike to follow behind him, "Come on. Lets get out of here."
Mike didn't say another word as he quietly followed behind Hopper, but still wondering at the same time.
