Y/n analysed her surroundings and realised that they were almost at the hot springs. The loud voices of Tanjiro, Genya and the other demon slayers rang out from afar, travelling to them on the wind. She smiled (a little sadly) and let go of Muichiro's hand.
"Guess this is the part where we have to act normal." She laughed, but was still slightly thrown off by the lack of his touch. "Mui... I know we are keeping this quiet for now but... please don't go too far from me when we get there. Remember, I don't know these people like you do and I'm... well, I'm nervous."
Y/n was more than ashamed to admit that she was afraid, but still decided to trust Muichiro. At least with him there, she was less likely to embarrass herself... Right?
(A/N: foreshadowing 💀🌚)
"Of course. I'll stick by you, don't worry." Wide blue eyes met hers and he smiled.
"Oh, I actually have to ask you something real quick before we go." I don't want to ruin the moment, but I need to know..
"Y/n, can I.. ask you a question about something.. personal?"
"Oh?" She began to worry slightly. She wasn't always a fan of personal questions... But she trusted him. Hesitantly, she nodded, and waited for him to speak. He looked down and sighed.
I can't back out now.. I have to ask her this- I.. want to ask her..
"Y/n.. your scar. I'm sure it's.. not easy to talk about. But.." He cleared his throat.
"I noticed you were trying to cover it earlier." He began, his voice a lot softer than usual.
"So.. um.. how did.. you get that scar?"
She froze. "Um... which one, ahah..." She had many scars but deep down, she knew which one he meant.
"The one on your eye.." His voice was more gentle than its usual cold tone, his eyes full of innocent curiosity as he looked up at her.
She seemed.. hesitant to speak about it? He knew it must be a sensitive topic, but he wanted to at least know where she got it. More than anything, Muichiro wanted to help her, and show his support.. He just wanted to be there for her.
"If you don't want to tell me, it's okay. Just.. I wanted to ask."
She looked at the floor. She knew that the deep scar that divided her eyebrow was noticable but... she had tried to convince herself that Muichiro hadn't seen it. She looked up at him.
"Tokito, I...." she paused. Why had she called him by his last name? Was she scared to open up to him for some reason? He noticed her reaction, and looked up at her, concerned. He reached out and grabbed her by the hands.
"Y/n, you don't need to talk about it if you don't want to. I'm not worried because of it or anything, I just thought.. Um..."
How can I say this..?
"Well, I don't want you to think that it makes you any less beautiful or anything. Seeing you trying to cover part of your face was so sad, and you never mentioned what it was from, so I wanted to know..."
She thought deeply, memories swimming through her eyes like blind fish swimming through a black ocean.
"Well, yes, it's sad... So i wouldn't want to tell you now and upset you before we meet the others. Oh no, but what if I don't tell you and you spend time worrying about it?... Oh, was I saying that out loud?"
She looked up at him, her eyes slightly panicked. Muichiro looked down and noticed her hands shaking slightly inside his grip... He stared at her, confused, but smiled nonetheless. He put a hand on her face, blinking affectionately at her.
"Y/n, you don't have to worry. You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to, ever. You don't need to explain yourself, if you don't want to."
He softly nodded, giving her a comforting smile.
"I wouldn't worry about it at all."
She breathed a sigh of relief and forced a smile back onto her face. When she looked at Muichiro, she knew that he was trustworthy... His eyes were bright and honest, even when clouded with amnesia.
"You know what? I will tell you noww and get it over with." Y/n inhaled deeply and stated in a monotonous voice:
"It was from my father. He punched me in the face and gashed it open."
Her expression was blank. She wasn't allowing herself to feel panicked. Instead, she focused on breathing.
Inhale... exhale... inhale... exhale...
Muichiro looked down at her. Wow.. she was so stoic about that, as if.. she's come to terms with it?
He looked up at her.
"Is that.. really why?" He asked, his voice low.
"That's just.."
He stopped himself. He could only imagine how much pain she had endured, to have something like that.. He felt awful for her, but he just didn't know what to say.
She blinked, her eyes dull. "Yes, it's true. He..." She forced herself to stop speaking before she could continue the story.
"No, I will not speak of it." She turned away from him and began walking towards the hot springs, when she looked back, a smile was plastered across her face and she was beckoning him to follow.
Despite her cheery expression, her eyes were still empty. Muichiro looked at her, his expression of concern shifting into one of sadness. Her dull eyes reminded him of what he saw when he looked in the mirror.
That's horrible.. What else could she have been through if something as terrible as that happened to her..? Her own father, nonetheless.
He was just glad she told him. He couldn't imagine her keeping it hidden for longer than she already had.
I'm so sorry, Y/n..
He silently followed her, his head down.
