Muichiro breathed in sharply, realizing that he had made a mistake.
"Oh, yeah.. they are slayers too."
With a gasp, he covered his mouth; he hadn't meant to say that.
How do I dig myself out of this one...?
He cleared his throat, and looked over at her. Y/n's eyes were slanted questioningly, and she didn't look at all convinced by the lie... Muichiro's insides squirmed at her expression.
"You know.. I don't really like talking about them, because, they.. Well, I just don't see them much.'"
He wasn't sure if he had actually saved himself there. Cold sweat poured down his back, he was infinitely uncomfortable with this conversation..
Y/n raised an eyebrow at him suspiciously, but softened her gaze when she saw the discomfort in his eyes.
"Oh, you said you usually stay with a friend...?" She cocked her head to the side. Muichiro nodded, but when I thought about it, he couldn't quite remember who he was referring to. Genya, maybe? Tanjiro? No, that couldn't be right... They were like him, not having a home outside the demon slayer corps. When they weren't on missions, they simply slept where ever they could.
This isn't awkward at all..
He looked at her, before shrugging and nodding at her question.
"Yeah, a 'friend'."
He hoped that she didn't notice the hesitation in his voice, but that would probably be too much to ask for.
He sighed.
"Uhh, so yeah, to answer you question... My home is just kind of awkward to explain." He cleared his throat and changed the subject.
"Where do you live?"
Y/n's eyes widened.
He- he doesn't remember?
"You've actually been their before, Mui." She reminded him. "On the first day we met, I ripped your uniform during training and offered to sew it back up. That's when we went to my house."
Her tone was soft, but also slightly pleading. "R-remember?"
Muichiro racked his brains, trying to find the memory.
Oh... Right, right! I remember now.
He remembered walking up to a little cottage in the middle of nowhere. It was surprisingly cozy.
He smiled, still remembering seeing her sewing as she worked.
I'm dumb to not have remembered that.
"Yes, I remember now. I can't believe I didn't." He laughed awkwardly. "Your house is really comfy, by the way."
He blushed a tiny bit. She faked a smile in reply.
"Yeah, haha..."
Her house was anything but comfy. So what did he think it looked like? He really... didn't remember...
Muichiro could see something was wrong. Something is definitely off here.
He looked at her uncomfortable expression. Maybe I should just ask her.
"Y/n, is there something wrong?"
He raised an eyebrow, and looked at her with concern in his eyes. He could tell that something was upsetting her, but he couldn't tell what it was.
Now it was Y/n's turn to try and dodge his questions. This was unknown territory for them, since they had never spoken in detail about his amnesia..
If we don't talk about it now... when will we ever? I should be honest with him.
She sighed. "Muichiro... I think... you may be mixing up your memories. My house... is a shed, not a cottage. And it's horribly cramped, not cosy..." she gulped. They'd never spoken about this before, and it was making her stomach twist.
"Do you think... that you maybe just... forgot?"
Muichiro's eyes widened as she spoke, and he froze for a second.
What is she talking about..?! No, she's wrong!
He took a breath, and then spoke.
"Wait.. you don't have a house? I went to your shed?"
He was completely sure that he had been to her house. But what if it was just a fabricated memory, made up to replace the parts of reality that he had forgotten?
"Are you sure...?"
She smiled nervously. "Well, the shed IS my house. It's basically a two room shack, so far from what you were describing. I'm sorry but... Yeah. I'm sure. You're remembering it differently"
She felt so guilty saying that... Muichiro looked so... sad.
She was right, I really have been mixing up my memories.. Guilt began to eat away at his stomach.
Muichiro wasn't sure what to say, but he knew he had to say something to cheer her up.
"Well, I may have remembered it wrong, but that shouldn't be the focus. What's important is now, and the fact is that I'm sitting here with my favorite person!"
He looked up at her, before smiling and gently pinching her cheek. She chuckled gently at his playfulness, glad that the conversation had steered in another direction.
Orange light shone into their eyes, making Y/n's tears ducts water slightly. Blinking through the glare, she realised that the sun was beginning to set now... it was beautiful to watch. She looked to Muichiro, and blushed, an idea springing into her mind.
"Um... Mui..."
"Hmm?" He turned his attention back at Y/n, his gaze falling on her skin that was dappled with the orange evening light.
"Yeah..? What is it?"
"Would you like to watch the sunset with me?" She beamed at him, willing him to say yes. Muichiro cocked his head to the side.
She wants to watch the sunset? Isn't that something that couples do?!" Oh wait... We are a couple, right?
His eyes widened slightly. I mean.. I don't NOT want to... Even if I'm remembering this wrong, I still want to spend time with her.
"Yes, yes, I'd love to." He couldn't help but smile.
"I've never seen the sunset with someone else before, so it should be very pleasant."
He paused for a moment before continuing, watching the rays of light grow even brighter the sky.
"Do you have a good spot in mind?" He tilted his head slightly and gazed at Y/n, waiting for her response.
"Yeah.." the girl murmured. "I know just the place..."
