"Why do you like me?" Muichiro turned to face Y/n so that he could look in the eyes while he spoke.
He wasn't sure if the question was too personal or not, but he wanted to know why she had fallen for him in the first place.
Despite his high battle intelligence, Muichiro had never been good at reading other people. Nobody had ever made him care enough to change... But with her, he wanted to learn and understand. He wanted to become the best version of himself that he could be.
I want to be the best for you, Y/n. You deserve nothing short of it.
Y/n's eyes widened. Wasn't it obvious?
"That's... a question with many, many answers. So many answers that I could never even comprehend listing them all... But I can share a few, just for you, if you'd like?" She squeezed his hand. He squeezed back in confirmation, before nodding.
"I'd like that."
He stopped and looked at her.
What is this feeling..?
Is it.. love?
He was so young, and he was already having these feelings. He didn't understand them, and it was so strange..
I want to understand.
"Please, tell me everything." He murmured.
When she looked into his eyes, she realised why he was asking. He wasn't being vain, or seeking compliments, or feeling sorry for himself; he was trying to navigate his feelings.
[CHEESE WARNING ⚠️🔥🙏]
"Well I guess I'll start with the obvious ones... You're insanely talented, I mean, your sword skills are almost as breathtaking as the abs that they gave you. Oh, and your hair... The way your hair flows in the wind is just..." she paused, searching for the right word. "... enchanting."
"I love your voice, it's very comforting. And your hands, and your face, and your skin, and your lips, and your words..."
She smiled adoringly and gazed into his eyes.
"Your eyes..." she murmured, her voice softening even further.
"Your eyes are so, so mesmerising. They're full of kindness, even when they're quite cold. They remind me very much of both the ocean and the sky... Looking into your eyes makes me feel.." She rested her head on his shoulder.
"There just aren't words enough to describe it. Its like I was born just to stare into them all day."
He listened to her as she spoke.
She found him breathtaking? How?
She seemed to love everything about him, even his voice, which he thought was rather strange.
He liked the sound of her voice too. It was smooth and sweet, just like her.
Was she born to stare into his eyes..?
He took in everything that she had just said, trying to memorize it all.
"You're adorable, you know that?" He couldn't help but smile as he spoke. Butterflies danced around in Y/n's stomach.
"Adorable?" She grinned, blushing deeply. "You really think I'm adorable?"
He nodded.
"Yes, you're very adorable!" He paused for a moment, before looking up at her.
"Your smile, your laugh, your eyes, your voice.. everything about you.. they all make my heart flutter. But in a good way.. I can't really describe it. When I look at you I feel so weird... Again, in a good way."
He looked down at his feet. "You're also really clumsy, and I guess that adds to your cuteness." His expression was a bit more bashful as he spoke. The blushing girl held back a smile. His words.. meant the world to her. She looked back up at him with tears in her eyes.
"You're the first person to ever speak of me this highly..." she whispered, her voice breaking slightly. "I... I appreciate your words, Muichiro. More than you will ever know."
[Cheesey stuff over, yall are safe now 🥰🌚]
She leaned her head onto his shoulder and smiled.
"Cmon, we should be getting back before nightfall. It's been far too long since I've been on a mission." He nodded.
He watched the tear roll down her cheek, and his mind went blank.
Wait... She's my girlfriend, right? And we've already established that? I don't... I don't quite remember...
He hugged her tightly when she rest her head on his shoulder, pushing down the nagging thoughts in his head.
"Yes, let's head back to the village." He was happy that she was holding him close, even if he was confused.
"By the way Mui, I meant to ask you-" she began. "Where do you actually live? I mean, a lot of the hashira have these massive estates... so what about you?"
She knew that he wouldn't be living in someplace as embarrassing as her current home, but she was still curious. Secretly, she was hoping that he would invite her over so that she didn't have to sleep in a draughty shed every night... Muichiro looked over at her. He wasn't looking forward to answering this question yet.
"...Umm.. so, my parents live in a pretty nice place. I'm allowed to stay with them whenever I come back from my missions, but.." He paused for a moment, surprised at how quickly the lie came to his lips.
"I usually stay with a friend."
He sighed.
"My parents are nice, but they don't believe in demons and all that so we don't talk much."
"Hmm? That's odd. I thought you said that your parents were demon slayers too?" She cocked her head to the side as Muichiro's eyes widened slightly.
Had she... had she just caught him in a lie? About his parents?
His face dropped and his skin paled. Y/n looked deep into him questioningly.
What are you hiding, Mui?
