I couldn't help but feel bad considering I had been best friends with Sam and Paul and now I was technically their enemy. Jasper, Emmett, and Rosalie stayed close to me partly because they were the closest to me in the whole family but I also had a feeling that it was because they didn't want me to lose it on Edward again.

When Jacob came back from patrolling as we were all milling around the house, he asked Rosalie "how long does she have left?"

Rosalie sighed "given at the rate this baby is growing, times almost out."

I heard Edward go and join them before chiming in "in the research that Jasper, Ben, Carlisle, and I have found we think that Bella isn't the first human to be impregnated by a vampire." I could almost see Jake raising his eyebrows. "Except it doesn't seem like any of them survived."

"Probably because they didn't have the familial support like we do or a doctor who understands humans and vampires." I conceded her point as I pulled my grimoire out and flipped through the pages. I grimaced involuntarily as I heard Rosalie explaining that the baby would chew its way out of Bella.

I stopped suddenly on a page and nearly gasped out as I read the spell. It was a spell to make vampire venom heal a human but nothing else. I looked up as Jasper came in and told me that it was safe to hunt. He went in the first while I had already gone.

I watched him leave before looking down at the spell. I knew that Bree was Edward's true mate but why couldn't he pull away from Bella. Then I remembered what Edward had always said about Bella being hard to read. I flipped some more pages and came to a page detailing most dangerous powers.

And there it was. Bella was a shield. Mental and maybe physical from the looks of it. I read mental shields can block all mental attacks. They can expand it to protect others even without realizing it. However the most dangerous part of mental shields is that they can block the effects of mate bonds.

Sometimes if a human has vampire venom in them or some part of a vampire it will amplify their powers. The only thing that can stop it is to do the vampire reduction spell.

I gasped. That explained a lot. I went back to the spell. This vampire reduction spell renders a vampire with no extra gift. It can take away their gift no matter what it is.

I thought about it for a minute then realized that even though I may dislike Edward I hated Bella more. I also refused to let Bree lose her true mate to Bella. And I definitely knew that the only reason Bella was having this child was because she wanted to be a vampire.

I had a decision to make.

I stopped when I heard Jake and Edward downstairs. Edward was speaking "Bella can't handle much more of this. We need to get the baby out as soon as possible." Edward stopped here and I could tell there was more. "I ask that you allow me to turn Bella."

I was confused why he was asking Jake and not Sam but then I remembered Sam wasn't actually the alpha. Jake was Ephraim's heir meaning he was the true heir and allowed to renegotiate the treaty.

It was silent for a moment before Jake spoke and I knew it took everything in him. "Fine!...Go ahead.  Save her. As Ephraim's heir, you have my permission, my word, that this will not violate the treaty.  The others will just have to blame me.  You were right – they can't deny that it's my right to agree to this."

I turned back to the book. I decided that I was going to do it. I closed my eyes as I heard Bella fall limp and allowed my magic out before chanting the spell ensuring that when Bella woke up as a vampire she would no longer be a shield of any kind or have a special power meaning Edward should be free.

I chuckled as I finished it and opened my eyes again. I couldn't wait for her reaction.
