"Well that was a bust!" I said as we headed back to the car.
"What do we do now?" Willow asked.
"Abject prayer and supplication would spring to mind."
"I saw her walking past this park with her grocery bags. She lives in this neighborhood."
"I'm gonna start banging on doors." Willow told us, heading to the next house but Buffy was quick to stop her.
"Wait, no, we do not have time for that!"
"We have to do something!"
"We will." Buffy told us determinately, before she looked off at a manhole in the street. She lifted the top of and started to climb in. "I won't be long."
"W... Buffy?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were still waiting for Buffy to come out of the manhole. "Come on, Buffy!" Willow shouts into the manhole.
Suddenly, a vampire, that must have been the big Claw Guy that Buffy was talking about, came rushing out of the bushes swinging his arm and claw around. A second later, Buffy also came out of the bushes and has him tied up. He turns to look at Buffy and snarls, "You!"
"Me!" she replied as she started to shove him down the street. We were walking down the street using the Claw Guy to find the Miss Creepy Bug Lady's house. "Come on! Come on, where is she? Which house is it? I know you're afraid of her, I saw you! Come on!" As we walked towards one house, he started pulling away which meant that he could feel her presence in the house. "Come on. What? What is it? This is her, isn't it, this is her house? This is it! Better than radar!"
Before we knew it, the Claw Guy managed to break free of the ropes. "Buffy!" Willow cried.
He swung at her, but, luckily, she leaned back in time. Unfortunately she fell to the ground, tripping over a miniature picket fence, with the Claw Guy following close behind. I rushed over to the picket fence, while she tried to subdue him, and ripped out one of the picket. I called out to her and threw her the picket to use as a stake. When he went to take another swing at her she thrust the picket into his heart. We all breathed a sigh of relief as Claw Guy fell over dead.
We were about to head to the front of the house, when we heard sounds coming from the side where we assumed the basement was. "HEEEELLLLP!"
Buffy smashed the basement window and slid through, while I followed behind holding the bag of weapons. "Uh, hey, o-over here, hello! In the cage!" I looked over and saw Blayne trapped in a cage.
"Let him go!" Buffy yelled at Natalie who was in her true, disgusting form. We run down the stairs, stopping in front of her. I opened the bag and tossed Buffy two cans of bug spray while taking out two for myself. As we sprayed Natalie in the face Giles and Willow went to release Blayne and Xander.
"Get them outta here!" Buffy yelled to Giles gesturing to the two boys. I grabbed the tape recorder and the machete from the bag and threw the latter to Buffy. "Remember Dr. Gregory? You scarfed his head?" Buffy started, glaring at Natalie who was backing away. "Yeah, well, he taught me, you do your homework; you learn stuff. Like what happens to your nervous system when you hear this!"
She nodded at me, and I pressed play on the tape, only to hear Giles' voice. "...extremely important to file not simply alphabetically..."
"Giles!" I yelled, looking at him with annoyance and disbelief.
"I-it's the wrong side!" He told me, but Natalie had already knocked both the machete from Buffy's hands and the tape recorder from mine. We watched as it landed under the fridge that was in front of Giles. As he scrambled to get, Buffy and I tried to keep her occupied, with Buffy dodging attacks and throwing punches and me; still spraying her with the bug spray.
Xander joined my side and sprayed the bug spray in Natalie's face. Buffy pushed him out of the way, but Natalie just took the opportunity to knock her down. I was about to help her, when she managed to raise herself onto her hands and one leg, and kicked Natalie's legs in an attempt to keep her away. I could see the machete on the floor and grabbed it, at the same time Giles found the tape recorder and pressed play. Suddenly, Natalie began swinging around, disoriented at the sound.
"Buffy!" I called, handing her the machete. Buffy approaches Natalie, who was still flailing her claws around.
"Bat sonar. Makes your whole nervous system go to Hell. You can go there with it!" Buffy spat, as she started slashing at Natalie repeatedly into pieces. After the She-Mantis stopped moving we all stood up and went over to Buffy who was breathing heavily. I saw Blayne slowly get out of his cage and Willow run to Xander while the rest of us looked at what was left of Natalie.
"Well, I... I'd say it's deceased." Giles stammered.
"And dissected," added Willow, in repulsion. I looked and saw Buffy had dropped the machete on the ground. Picking it up, I took another swing at the creature. I smiled when it didn't move, but everyone just looked at me either shocked or confused.
"What? Better safe than sorry."
"You okay?" Xander asked Buffy who was still looking at the carnage.
"Yeah."
"Just for the record, you were right, I'm an idiot, and God bless you!" Xander said, looking at Buffy gratefully. I 'subtly' coughed, letting him know about the rest of us. "And thank you guys, too."
"Yeah, really!" Blayne nodded, still shaken from the whole ordeal.
"Pleasure..."
"I'm really glad you're okay. It's so unfair how she only went after virgins." Willow revealed.
Xander laughed nervously, looking back and forth between Buffy, Willow and I. "What?"
"I mean, here you guys are, doing the right thing, the smart thing, when a lot of other boys your age..."
"Flag down on that play, babe. I am not..." Blayne starts, before Giles interrupted. I smiled realising that Blayne, the 'ultimate ladies' man' was in fact a virgin. Well Xander, looks like you won't have to worry about him anymore.
"Well, you see, that's the She-Mantis' modus operandi. Uh, she only preys on the pure."
"Well, isn't this a perfect ending to a wonderful day!" Xander stated, smiling sarcastically.
"My dad's a lawyer. Anyone repeats this to anybody, they're gonna find themselves facing a lawsuit."
"I may have to tell people." I admitted, laughing slightly.
"Blayne! Luce! Shut up!"
"I don't think it's bad, I think it's really..." she paused, when she saw Xander taking the machete out of my hands, "...sweet! It's certainly nothing I'll ever bring up again."
Xander took the machete over to Natalie's nest. He looked it over and then started hacking away at it, as fiercely as Buffy did.

We were in science with our new biology teacher, who was currently droning on about our midterm papers. "All midterm papers will be exactly six pages long. No more; no less. One third of your grade will be dependent..." I could see Buffy daydreaming, out of the corner of my eye. She was still upset about losing Dr. Gregory. "...on those papers. No more, no less."
The bell rang, ending the lesson and bringing Buffy back to Earth. I saw Buffy lingering behind as she picked up Dr. Gregory's glasses. I walked with her as she moved towards the closet where his jacket still was. Carefully, she placed the glasses inside the pocket and at the same time I placed a hand on her shoulder. "You alright?" She nodded slightly, still not looking at me.
While she closed the closet door, I placed my arm around her shoulder and walked her out of the classroom. Unfortunately, neither of us saw a cluster of the She-Mantis' eggs under the lowest shelf. We also didn't notice one of the eggs hatching...
