Lucy POV
Buffy slammed her locker shut, while Xander and I stood next to her. Apparently she went to the Bronze to meet up with Owen, but when she arrived he was dancing with the Bitch Queen. "So you just went home?"
"What was I supposed to do? Say to Owen 'Sorry I was late, I was sitting in a cemetery with the librarian waiting for a vampire to rise so I could prevent an evil prophecy from coming to pass?'"
"Or flat tire?"
"I can't take this anymore. I feel like everyone is staring at me, the big, hideous, dateless monster." She started to walk down looking tense before she locked eyes on some random student that was passing by. "What? Yeah, that's right, I have no life, c'mon, nothin' to see here, pal, move it along!"
"Hey, great job! I'm sure no one is looking at you now." I told her sarcastically.
"You're acting a little overly, aren't you? I mean, you could have any guy in school."
"He's not any guy. He's more... Oweny."
"Sure, he's got a certain Owenosity, but that's not hard to find. I mean, a lotta guys read. I can read." Xander told her goofily, still trying to get her to go out with him. So sad.
Buffy was, fortunately, not paying attention to him and was instead looking at Owen, who was walking up to her. "Hey, Buffy!"
"Owen!"
"Oh, look, it's Owen. Buffy and Owen. And Xander. That'd be me."
"I'm here too!"
"Evans."
"Thurman."
"W-where were you last night?" Owen asked, turning his attention back to Buffy.
"Oh. Well, um, my watch broke and we don't have any clocks in our house and so I didn't know what time it was or even what day it was..."
"I thought I was the only one that happened to. How 'bout we try it again for tonight? I'll even lend you my watch." He took out a gold pocket watch and chain and handed it to Buffy, while Xander and I looked at it in amazement. Way to go Buffy.
"Tonight? Y-you and me?" While Buffy admired the watch, I saw Xander look down at his Tweety Bird watch.
"Well, we could invite the chess club, but they drink and they start fights..."
"Oh, no, it's just... Well, I... sort of heard that... you and Cordelia were... somewhat... all over each other. A little..."
"I danced with her a couple of times. She's kind of grabby."
"Oh, well, let's see, if I rearrange that, and I push that to n... Sure! Tonight'll work!"
"Great! I'll pick you up at seven?"
"Um, seven!"
"That's when the little hand's there."
"Oh! Between the six and the eight."
"Um, I'll see you then!" He walked off while Buffy watched him in awe.
"Tonight! Isn't that so?"
"What?" Xander asked, pretending not to pay attention.
"Me and Owen!" She walked off as Xander watched her, looking disappointed.
"Yeah, so it is. It sure is so."
"Hey don't look so down. You had her attention for half a minute. That's progress."
