Later on Buffy decided to approach Willow who was sitting a bench on her own eating her lunch.
"Uh, hi. Willow, right?" she asked when she was front of her. Willow looked at Buffy quite nervous and confused.
"Why? I mean Hi. Did you want me to move?" she stuttered.
"Why don't we start with "Hi I'm Buffy."" she smiled as she sat next to her "And then let's move directly into me asking you for a favour. It doesn't involve moving, but it does involve you hanging out with me for a while."
"But aren't you... hanging out with Cordelia?" Willow asks her, genuinely confused.
"I can't do both?"
"Not legally." Willow replies seriously, which causes Buffy to smile.
"Look, I really want to get by here. New school... Cordelia's been really nice- to me anyway- but I have this burning desire not to flunk all my classes, and I heard a rumour that you were the person to talk to if I wanted to get caught up."
"Oh, I could totally help you out! If you have sixth period free we could meet in the library-"
"-or not." Buffy quickly cut her off. "Or, you know, we could meet somewhere quieter. Louder. That place kind of gives me a wiggens." Willow nodded empathetically.
"It has that effect on most kids. I love it, though. It's a great collection, and the new librarian's really cool."
"He's new?" Buffy asks, a bit surprised.
"Yeah, he just started. He was a curator of some British Museum. Or the British Museum, I'm not sure... But he knows everything and he brought all these historical volumes and biographies and am I the single dullest person alive?"
Buffy smiled in amusement at her. "Not at all!"
Xander and Jesse walked up to Willow and Buffy. Xander chose to be the one to cut in to their conversation.
"Hey. Are you guys busy? Can we interrupt? We're interrupting."
Buffy recognized him as the boy she had met earlier. "Hey."
"Hey there." Jesse, Willow and Xander's friend, replies.
"Buffy, this is Jesse, and that's Xander."
"Oh, me and Buffy go way back." Xander joked as he referred to their awkward meeting before. "Old friends, very close. Then there was that period of estrangement, I think we were both changing as people, but here we are and it's like old times, I'm quite moved."
"Is it me, or are you turning into a bibbling idiot?" Jesse sarcastically asked him.
"No. It's, uh, not you." Xander replied, embarrassed.
"Well, it's nice to meet you guys...I think." Buffy said hesitantly.
"Well, we wanted to welcome you, make you feel at home. Unless you have a scary home." Jesse 'clears up'.
"And to return this." Xander added before he pulled the stake, which Buffy had dropped when someone had knocked all her things over and Xander had helped her pick them up, out of his bag. "The only thing I can think is that you're building a really little fence."
Buffy quickly grabbed the stake from him. "Heh, no. Um, actually that was for self defense. Everyone has them in L.A., um. Pepper spray is so passe."
Xander sat down next to her. "So. What do you do for fun? What do you like? What do you look for in a man? Let's hear it."
"If you have any dark, painful secrets that we could publish..." Jesse jokingly commented.
"Gee, everybody wants to know about me. How keen."
