Lucy POV
Buffy and I were sitting at the library table, still studying the ring. Giles was up in the stacks also doing some research. "That symbol on the ring... I believe it's the rune for fidelity but, uh, it doesn't connect with any of the sects that I've studied."
"What about this?" Buffy asked, showing us the ring again. "On the inside. It's a sun and three stars. Haven't we seen that somewhere?"
"Let me see. No, I-I don't think this, um, represents any..." I grabbed the book Buffy was reading and looked on another page.
"No she's right. It's right here. Sun and three stars. Yuck, look at these guys."
"Told you it looked familiar."
"Oh, the Order of Aurelius. Yes, you're right."
"Ooh, two points for the Slayer and Seer, while the Watcher has yet to score!"
Owen, a cute, quiet boy who happened to be the source of many girls' affection; including Buffy, walked in before we could continue. "Oh! Owen! Hi!"
"What do you want?" Giles asked.
"A book?"
"Oh!"
"See, this is a school, and we have students, and they check out books, and then they learn things." Buffy told him.
"I was beginning to suspect that was a myth."
"I lost my Emily. Dickinson. It's dumb, but I like her around. Kind of a security blanket."
"I have something like that. Well, it's an actual blanket. Uh, and I don't really carry it around any-m-more..." Buffy trailed off, awkwardly. "So! Emily Dickens, huh? She's great!"
"Dickinson."
"She's good also."
Giles and I rolled our eyes at the pair. Owen looked to Giles who pointed to the stacks. "Poetry."
Owen nodded gratefully, then looked back at Buffy. "I didn't think I'd find you here."
"Why not?" Buffy asked, following after him.
"I, I didn't mean... I mean... I think you can read."
"Thanks."
"But you don't seem bookworm-y; the type of person to lock themselves in a dark room with a lot of musty old books. Oh, and I've offended you."
"No! No, I'm just surprised you gave any thought to what I'm like."
"You shouldn't be."
"Oh, well, I love books. I mean I really love books." She told him, as they headed back down the stairs. Owen looked at the book we were consulting before, so I rushed over to fetch it before he could take a closer look.
"What's this?"
"Not this one."
"This one she doesn't love." I told him, handing the book to Giles to hide behind the counter.
Owen walked to the checkout station and handed the book to Giles. "Oh, Emily Dickinson."
"We're both fans."
"Yes, uh, she's quite a good poet, I mean for a..."
"A girl?"
"An American."
"I'll, uh, see you in math... if I open my eyes at some point."
"Cool..."
"I'll see you around, Evans?"
