We were at the zoo on a school trip. Xander and Willow said they wanted to go look at the zebras. Meanwhile, I was looking for Buffy. When I finally found her she was being taunted by Kyle and his friends.
"Careful, she might beat you up." I heard Tor say.
"No she won't, but I'm just itching for an excuse." I told him, walking over and standing protectively in front of Buffy. All of them looked surprised to see me, including Buffy, but Kyle seemed to be the most. He was the first one to get over his shock as he strutted towards me so he was right in front of my face.
"Well?" I asked, knowing he wouldn't do anything. Not to me.
He looked into my eyes for another second before signalling to his gang to leave. They did so grudgingly, whilst glaring at me.
Once they were out of earshot I turned back to Buffy who seemed surprised that he actually listened to me.
"Hey thanks. I would have dealt with those guys myself but my ways tend to involve a nice, pointy stake."
"No problem. Kyle and his gang are just a bunch of idiots and as soon as they meet someone who isn't scared of them they panic. It's to amusing me. Come on, we'll just stick together."
As we were walking away, I looked back over at the gang and saw Kyle staring at me. He kept staring at me until he winked and turned around.

For some really strange reason, it actually made me a little nervous, but... in good way? We came across the elephants when Willow and Xander ran over to us.
"Buffy! Lucy! You missed it."
"Missed what?"
"We just saw the zebras mating. Thank you, very exciting."
"It was like the Heimlich with stripes."
"And we missed it, yet somehow I think we'll find the courage to live on." Buffy told them sarcastically, making me chuckle.
"Where were you?" Willow asked.
"We were looking at the fishes."
"Was it cool?"
"It was fishes."
"Yeah, unless they come with chips, I can't even pretend to be interested." I told her, rolling my eyes.
"I'm sensing that you're not in the field trip spirit here," Xander pointed out for Buffy, before turning to me, "and you've just got problems."
"Well, it's... it's nothing. It's just that we did the same zoo trip at my old school every year. Same old, same old."
"Buffy this isn't just about looking at a bunch of animals. This is about not being in class."
"You know you're right. Suddenly the animals look all shiny and new."
"Got to have perspective."
We carried on walking around until we saw Kyle and his gang sneaking in to the off-limits Hyena House with Lance.
"What are Kyle and his friends doing with Lance?" Willow asked voicing my thoughts.
"Playing with him as a cat plays with a mouse."
"What is it with those guys?"
"They're obnoxious, professionally."
"Well every school has them. You have your desks, some chalkboards and your mean kids. Of course not all of them are mean to everyone." Xander explained while both he and Willow grinned mischievously at me.
"What do you mean?" Buffy questioned.
"Nothing. He doesn't mean anything, if he wants to keep breathing that is."
"Kyle over there, the uh leader of the pack if you will, is completely head over heels in love with our own big, bad Luce over here."
"Really?" Buffy asked while starting to smile as well.
"He is not in love with me. It's just a little crush he's had on me since I moved here... eight years ago."
"Well either way, I should-"
"I'll handle this," Xander cut in, "I don't think this job requires actual slaying."
"You don't think we should follow." Buffy asked.
"Kyle and those guys are jerks, but they're all talk." Willow replies though suddenly starts looking doubtful. "Mostly." All three of us exchanged a worried look.
"Why don't we..." Buffy trailed off.
"Yeah, why don't we."
We moved down towards the entrance to the Hyena House, but the zookeeper managed to catch us.
"Are you blind? Or are you just illiterate?" He asked us sarcastically. "Because Hyenas are quick to prey on the weak."
"Probably because they're too dumb to fight anything strong." I said, bitingly. The zookeeper just glared at me. Buffy intervened sensing the tension.
"We were just-"
"You're not going in there. Anyone that does is in a world of trouble." We looked back at the entrance which Xander had gone through.
"No, no one's going in there?" Willow said, quickly.
"How come it's off limits?" I asked.
"Quarantine." He answered while locking up the gates. "They just came in from Africa, so keep out. Even if they call your name."
"What're you talking about?" Buffy asked.
"A Masai tribesman once told me that hyenas can understand human speech. They follow humans by day, learning their names. At night, when the campfire has died, they call out to the person. And once that person is separated... the pack devours him." Willow and Buffy were silent.
"And people wonder why the hyenas aren't a big hit with the other animals." I quipped, before I walked away, knowing the zookeeper was glaring at me.
When we got back to the bus we saw Xander already there, completely unharmed. Though for the whole trip he didn't sit with us, he was really quiet and I could sense something was different. But what was strange was that for the whole trip, I could feel someone watching me.
