"Did you really... I mean you really organised all this?"
Hero looks around in disbelief.
The restaurant we are in is deserted except for us and two waiters.
The dim lights make the atmosphere even more magical.
It has started snowing again outside and the crisp air couldn't make things more beautiful than this.
There are two small candles on our table, set simply but tastefully, just as I had asked the restaurant owner.
Hero keeps looking around and I can't help but smile at him and enjoy the scene.
"What do you say, can we sit down?" I propose as he nods vigorously.
"It's all beautiful Jo! It's really... I don't know, you've left me speechless!" He takes my hand and brings it to his heart.
I can see his smile even though we are both still wearing masks.
"Welcome gentlemen" a very elegant waiter greets us "Please follow me. This way."
We reach the table, as it is explained to us that we will of course be able to remove our masks, as soon as all the staff members have left and that the courses will be served to us on a trolley, so that we have no contact with anyone.
These are all security measures that I had to establish together with the production and the restaurant in order to get permission to leave the hotel.
We are the two co-stars in the film, we can't afford the risk of getting sick!
Hero keeps looking around and then turns his eyes back to me.
He looks at me enraptured and I feel my heart quicken every time he gives me these deep looks.
I could get lost in his eyes and spend hours looking at him without speaking.
It's amazing how we always understand each other, without even saying a word. It is such a deep connection that I cannot even explain the strength that being together with him gives me.
"When did you organise all this? I didn't notice anything!"
"It wouldn't have been a surprise otherwise, would it?" I wink at him as we both sit and wait for the food cart.
"Can I..." He brings his hand closer to mine over the table and looks at me excitedly.
I nod and smile as he squeezes my hand in his.
"I wouldn't want that..." He looks around to see if anyone is watching us but I shake my head reassuringly.
"Everyone will stay as little as possible in the room with us, that's the arrangement."
He squeezes my hand even tighter "I wish I could hold your hand like that, whenever I feel like it..." He sighs and I know what he means. It's not easy having to control yourself all the time.
I don't like too much public niceties, I've never put up with them even in the past when the least of my problems were the paparazzi.
But not being able to behave freely outside the walls of our room is not so easy sometimes.
He pulls his chair closer to mine so that we are almost sitting side by side and moves our intertwined hands to my thigh.
We both smile and I bite my lip, smiling.
I wish I could stop time and stay like this with him, in our protective bubble away from the gaze of the rest of the world.
"When the filming for the movie is over, you..." He catches his breath and looks at me with an uncertain expression on his face.
"I what?" I squeeze his hand to invite him to continue.
"You're going back to L.A?" He throws out in one breath.
It seems to worry him a lot even though he's pretending it's not. By now it's as if I can read his thoughts just by looking into his eyes.
