It had been a few months since Alex first stood in that training room. Since then, she had been training constantly to become an efficient Force user. The training had become like a drug to her; the more she did it, the more alive she felt. While training, she had been going on missions alongside Obi-Wan and the rest of the Jedi. The Republic had welcomed her, as they needed all the help they could get. As much as she hated to admit it, the Republic had become a new home for her, one she never had after the demise of her parents.
On the current day, Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Alex were at the service of the Duchess of Mandalore, providing her safety after the formation of the terrorist group, Death Watch.
"The safety of Duchess Satine is of the utmost importance," Obi-Wan spoke to the clone troopers standing in front of him, Anakin, and Alex. "The Death Watch will stop at nothing to assassinate her before she pleads her case to the Senate."
"The Death Watch may be backed by the Separatists, so stay sharp," Anakin commanded.
A voice from the other end of Obi-Wan's com spoke up, "The Duchess and her retinue request your presence."
They headed up the lift to the Duchess's room.
"I sense some anxiety from you about the Duchess," Anakin spoke to Obi-Wan. Alex's head shot up. Obi-Wan looked at Anakin, as if giving him a signal to stop talking, which, though totally oblivious to Anakin, Alex noticed. "She couldn't be in safer hands," Anakin continued.
"I know, Anakin."
"Then why?" Alex interjected, there was a mischievous suspicion in her tone, as if she knew she was making Obi-Wan nervous.
"Is there something going on there?" Anakin said. Obi-Wan looked at him, wide-eyed. This time Anakin realized the mess he had created.
"Oh," he laughed nervously, "I'm sensing I've made some sort of mistake here." He continued laughing nervously while Obi-Wan tried to avoid Alex's icy glare.
As they entered the room, the Duchess was already in conversation, "I speak for thousands of worlds that have urged me to allow them to stay neutral in this war," she spoke.
Obi-Wan intervened in the conversation, making his presence known to the Duchess, "And yet some might argue that the strongest defense is a swift and decisive offense." Alex rolled her eyes; she wasn't the jealous kind, but she was protective. She didn't have much, so it made sense to be protective over the one thing she had.
The Duchess's gaze lingered a bit on Obi-Wan, and then she remarked, "You are quite the general now, aren't you? Master Kenobi." Alex furrowed her eyebrows, Anakin seemed to notice her reaction. He nudged her on the shoulder and giggled. She rolled her eyes at him.
"Senators, I presume you are acquainted with the collection of half-truths and hyperbole known as Obi-Wan Kenobi?" She said. Alex felt peeved, but all this was the utmost entertainment Anakin could get during times like these, therefore, there was a smirk plastered on his face.
"Allow me to introduce, my fellow Jedi, Anakin Skywalker, and one of our most strongest fighters, Alex Solari." He said.
"Your servant, my lady." Anakin said, bowing forward. I stayed in place.
"I remember a time when Jedi were not generals, but peacekeepers." She said. Alex couldn't help but let out a stifled laugh, which thankfully no one heard. She did quite agree with her on views about the Jedi.
"We are protectors, Highness. Yours at the moment. We fight for peace," Anakin shot back, offended. Alex watched all this with amusement.
"What Master Skywalker means is that we are acting at the behest of Your Highness to protect you from the Death Watch and the Separatists, who don't share your neutral point of view," Obi-Wan explained.
"I asked for no such thing!" she said.
"That may be so, but a majority of your court did," Obi-Wan replied. The whole room watched this aggressive interaction, as if it was a ball being passed from one person to another.
"I do not remember you as one to hide behind excuses." The Duchess argued. This made Alex burn, the mention of this mysterious past they had, that she was unaware of.
"I do not remember you as one to shrink from responsibilities." Alex wanted to leave the room and fly into outer space and stay there for a while, till this mission was over.
Anakin leaned over to Alex, smirking, and said, "You have nothing to worry about, they seem to hate each other." Alex gave him a murderous glare.
