Deceived Me

Chapter 41:

She waited for a while thinking maybe Alice got late. However, almost two hours passed but Alice was nowhere to be found. She gave up and hurried back home. She desperately hoped to at least find her in the apartment.

When she finally reached home, Alice was still nowhere to be found. She searched their apartments all over and over. Her eyes went red as she picked up her phone and tried to call her again and again. She went to Alice's apartment hoping to at least get her parents number or something she could contact her with but to no avail.

It was about to be 21:00 and she was losing her mind. She frantically decided to rush to her office and wsit outside.

In the hospital room, Alice's mother sat beside her waiting for her daughter to wake up. It is a very miserable thing for any mother to watch their child injured and covered up in bandage like this. She had a hard time controlling her tears but she had to be strong for her daughter.

At around 20:30, Alice began to regain consciousness just like the doctor said. Her mother was with her at that time and quickly called the doctor. After the check up and all, Alice felt dizzy and asked her father for water. After drinking water, she asked him what happened.

" You had an accident on the way to work. You just woke up. We reached here in time so we were able to save you."

Alice recalled what happened and the conversation with Stella darkened her eyes. Her eyes swept over the window with moon shining brightly and a realisation suddenly hit her. She asked her father a little anxiously.

" What time it is?"

" It's almost 21:00 right now. "

" Where is my phone?"

" Beside you on the table. Someone called twice but I didn't pick up as I don't know who it was. And the battery ran out so I charged it."

" I see. Thanks Dad."

Alice hurriedly switched on her phone. The moment she did, she saw 40 plus missed calls from Stella. She also saw the messages asking her if she's coming to pick her up and if she's gonna be late which later turned into where are you and text me back I am getting worried.

Alice's eyes warmed up but she quickly called Stella.

Stella sat in her car and drove towards Alice's office. While on the way, she received a call. The moment she saw Alice's name, her hands shook. She quickly parked the car on side and picked up.

" Hello? Alice?!" She called out anxiously.

" Stella, sorry something urgent come up and I couldn't inform you. Did you reach home safely?"

" ...Why did you pick up? I called so many times." Stella asked aggrievedly.

" Sorry I was busy and didn't saw your missed call. Later, my battery died."

" Are you okay? Why is your voice so hoarse? What happened?"

" It's nothing. I just had to go to another city for work. I feel asleep and just woke up. I called you add soon as I got off the plane."

" ... When will you be back?"

" It'll take a while. Probably after 2 to 3 weeks. I am not sure yet."

" Alright. Just... Don't disappear like that again. I was really worried."

" I know. I am sorry."

" It's okay. Did you eat? Don't forget to eat when you're busy. Your voice sounds so weak. Is anyone with you?"

" Yeah. My father is with me. Don't worry I'll eat. I am fine."

" That's good."

" Stella, I've to go now. I'll call you soon, okay?"

" Yeah. Call me whenever your free and take care of yourself."

" Yes."

" Bye "

Alice looked at her phone in a daze. She didn't want to tell Stella about the accident and worry her but maybe she also just wanted to give Stella a taste of her own medicine.

Her parents watched her talk and looked at each other concernedly. They knew Alice never fell in love. However, when her behavior suddenly changed so much a fee years ago, they suspected that something happened. And from the way she resists even the topic of getting together with someone makes them suspect that she had someone in her heart.
