One day, after getting out of a surgery, Stella called Alice. There was one hour left for getting off. Alice sat in her office working on some project. She was surprised to receive Stella's call at this time.
" Hello?"
" Alice, I justed wanted to tell you to not pick me up today."
Alice was surprised. It's been around a week and Stella never went anywhere else. She contemplated about asking her.
" Oh. Why?" She looked down at the empty page and asked.
Stella looked at the busy atmosphere in the hospital and replied.
" One of my friend invited me to a club. It's her birthday party. They're from my university. Anyway, from tomorrow I'll be on night shift so I can have fun all night. I'll probably be late at night. Or maybe I'll just spend the night with them. So you don't have to come."
" I see. You are going directly from there? No need to change?"
" Well, I don't have the energy and go back and forth. I've asked a friend to pick me up. I'll just apply her makeup and adjust my dress into a club style. It's good that I wore a black shirt."
" ...Alright "
" Yeah. Then take care and have a nice dinner. I'll hang up now. Bye."
" Bye... "
Alice looked at her phone in a daze. Stella is going to a club. There are drunkards in a club. What if she encounter a bad person?
Stella once said that she doesn't like going to clubs. She said drunk people don't give her good vibes. More importantly, people who gets drunk out of their mind doesn't feel safe to be around. Especially when she doesn't drink at all.
Alice wondered how did she make such friends who goes to clubs and bars. She doesn't even know these new friends of her. Who knows if they are good or bad. She thought Stella didn't have the type of friends she hangs out with. Or maybe she is overthinking. After all, Stella said it's her birthday party.
Alice couldn't work after that at all. Her mind kept wondering about Stella. She wanted to just call her and ask her where she is going? If it's safe or not? Are those new friends close to her?
But when she opened her phone, she would realise that she didn't let Stella give her the rights to ask her. She didn't have the right to ask her where she is or how she was. She didn't accept them and now it seems Stella doesn't initiate it either.
Alice closed her eyes for a moment and leaned back on the chair. She then opened her eyes and looked at the ceiling. An inexplicable hint of sadness filled her eyes. She began to feel that her nightmare has followed her in this life too.
Maybe she was right. Stella was unable to let go of the way they parted. She might just needed a closure and not her. She will again... Grow apart from her. She will again leave her. She will again stop loving her...
Since she didn't have to pick up Stella, Laice went home to her parents. They were happy that she finally came back. They told her to come back more frequently as they've missed her. Alice just nodded. She had dinner with them and planned to stay the night.
Meanwhile, Stella did actually went to a friends party. However, she wasn't a very close friend. She was just a casual good friend. The other fried who picked her up was the one she spent most of her time in university. She was a nerd at that time but who wasn't when they are in medical field.
She took off her jacket and opened the two buttons of her shirt. She opened her hair and let them flow. She asked her friend to bring heels and wore them. And then with a touch of sharp make up, she looked ready for the club party.
They reached the club and met with their friends. Stella come after a long time so she was occupied. She also wished her friend and enjoyed with them. They asked her to dance.
Everyone knew she doesn't drink. It wasn't a big surprise cause there are a few people who still doesn't drink or smoke in their country. It wasn't very common to drink here but it was becoming a common thing among new generations.
They always pull her to dance forcefully. She can't even reject them. She has become better at dancing because of that. Otherwise, her friends used to laugh at her dance.
After a mocktail drink, she finally got dragged out. On the dance floor, she danced with her friends. When others tried to come on to her, she stopped them. She doesn't like to flirt with anyone. She never liked. She soon went back as she didn't really like the atmosphere.
