Rin's game face was on and it was most emotion he had expressed since I had laid eyes on him at Blue Lock. He put his foot on the ball as everyone reset, staring at the goal in front of him. "From now on, I'm in control of this field. If you want to win, bust a gut to keep up with me."
"He's unusually fired up," I heard Aryu mutter.
"Love it! Show us your serious mode, Rin-chan," encouraged Bachira with a shit eating grin as he stepped up to switch places with Rin.
The whistle blew and Bachira kicked the ball slightly forward so that Rin could dash forward and take it. I took off down field, my heart beating so hard as energy swelled through my muscles. I turned my head slightly, making eye contact with Rin before he sent a beautiful arching pass my direction.
And just like that.... in my mind, I was at the beach.
"You messed up," Barou exclaimed out as the ball moved to land in the space between me and him. "I'll get there first."
Barou was charging at me, but it was like I didn't even seem him as a threat to me anymore. Rin's perfect pass also had a backspin, forcing the ball to hit the ground and bounce back in my direction anyway. I cradled the ball with my chest, keeping it against me as my feet dribbled an invisible ball in a feign against Barou. The arrogant mammoth's eyes were watching the ground, searching for the ball that wasn't there. I turned my back to him as gravity began top pull on the ball, spinning around him with control of the object he was desperately looking for. The ball rolled down my body and in front of me once I was past, and a sly smirk covered my face.
"Barou she has the ball!" Isagi cried out.
"I know kings look down on people," I said tauntingly as I moved away. "But maybe you should look up."
"You brat!" Barou hissed, charging after me.
I passed the ball to Rin right as Barou shoulder charged me, not having to look to know that my childhood friend was right there and wide open. I grunted at the impact but grinned as Rin took my ball and sent it downfield in Aryu's direction as he moved forward again. Desperately I shook off Barou and sprinted downfield, my feet craving the feel of the ball again as adrenaline pumped through my body.
Aryu leaped up and collected the ball with his chest before landing. Chigiri was blocking his path to the goal so he passed back to Rin, who was sprinting down the middle of the field. I looked ahead to find Nagi also charging at Rin, seeing my teammate as the pressing threat.
"Nagi! Block Rin's shooting paths!" Isagi instructed as he ran to catch up.
Rin lifted his leg, catching Aryu's pass as Isagi and Nagi were beginning to squeeze Rin in place and limit his options. I keep moving, smirking as Rin planted his left foot and began to power up for that goal.
Is that what you want me to do, Rin? I smiled. I know what you're going to do next. I shouldn't but I do.
It was like he was whispering it into my ear. I just knew.
