I woke the next morning with a long yawn. When I sat up moments later, I quickly realized I was alone in the room. On the small table next to my bed was a folded piece of paper. Reaching over with a small sigh, I unfolded the paper to see a note written in cursive.
Went down for breakfast and didn't want to wake you, :) - EME
I shook my head with a small smile before getting to my feet and preparing to join them for breakfast. After putting my hair in a braid and sliding on comfortable shorts, I then tied my shoes and left the locked room to climb to the upper deck.
The outside greeted me with warm salty air and wind instantly blew my bangs across my forehead. It was with a grin that I walked across the deck and stared over the railing at the open ocean. It was strangely peaceful to not see a single speck of green or land in sight. It was like I free from the rest of the world.
I moved to the entrance of the dining hall to see that it was already busy, people moving about the buffet of prepared food and sitting at the tables in the open space. Near one of the windows, I saw my friends sitting with some other familiar faces.
"Keiko!" Callista called with a wide grin, waving at me from across the hall. "Over here!"
I sighed at the loud exclamation she made, some people turning to look in my direction, but I ignored that and walked towards her with a smile. "You don't need to alert the entire boat that I have finally stopped being lazy, Calli."
"Why not?" Eme teased with a smirk as I approached the side of the table. "You're like royalty around here."
I let out a small grumble and rolled my eyes. "No I'm not."
"Good Morning, Keiko," Isagi greeted me with a smile, staring up at me from the seat next to the remaining chair at the table. On his other side sat Nagi and Kunigami, who were also giving me expressions of greeting.
"Morning, guys," I said, putting my hands into my pockets. "You're sitting with my friends?"
"They invited us to eat with them and to wait for you to wake up," clarified Kunigami with a small sigh. He tapped the translator piece in his ear. "Then they made us use these."
Ellis blinked at him. "How else are supposed to communicate? We don't know Japanese."
Isagi chuckled. "It's a good thing we brought them. I still struggle with English, so I thought bringing the translators would be helpful when we get to Hawaii."
I smiled with a nod. "I'm glad too. This way I don't have to be a universal translator this whole trip."
Nagi looked up at me from his plate and asked, "How did you sleep, Iteya-chan?"
