It was late the next morning when I finally opened my eyes after getting some well needed rest. Sunshine was filtering through the window onto my face, warming my cheeks slightly, with a distant Mount Fiji in the skyline. That made me smile slightly. With a yawn, I sat up before stretching and walking out of my suite.
When I opened the doors, I saw the rest of the girls sitting in the shared area of the hotel room on the couch and chairs around the TV as they watched the news.
"Good morning, sleeping beauty," Eme teased me lightly.
I lazily waved as I stepped over to the kitchenette and began to make myself some tea. "Why are you watching the news? Isn't there anything more interesting on TV?"
"It's the only thing we can sort of understand. It's in English," explained Ellis from where she was leaning heavily on the arm rest of the couch. "Everything else is in gibberish."
"Ah, then you must feel so lucky that I'm fluent in gibberish," I mused as I put a green tea bag in the steaming cup of water I had made.
Callista let out a laugh. "Yeah, you should have heard us try to order food last night. It was hilarious." She turned from where she sat on the couch next to Ellis to stare at me. "So, how did the dinner go? We all went to bed pretty early, so we didn't get to hear about it when you got back."
"Well..." I walked over and sat in the remaining empty chair by the couch. "I think I was there for only about 20 minutes."
Eme made a sympathetic face. "That bad, huh?"
"Yeah." I answered with a nod, squeezing the warm cup in between my palms. "It was a lot. Plus my father is dating my friend's mom, which I didn't know."
Ellis looked over at me, sitting up a bit. "That's always rough. I remember when my mom started dating someone new after my parents got divorced."
I sighed out. "Except my parents weren't divorced and he invited Bachira and his mom over for 'family' dinner." Bringing the cup to my lips, not bothering to let the tea steep, I took a sip of the slightly flavored water. "It was way too much for me to deal with."
"Wait, Bachira, you said?" Ellis raised an eyebrow. "Wasn't he one of the Blue Lock guys?"
"Yeah, I remember him from some of the pictures. He was the one with the yellow and black hair!" Callista let out a laugh. "His mom is dating your dad? Haha, talk about awkward."
"Ya. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet," I mumbled in response.
"That's understandable," Eme told me with a small smile. "Becoming comfortable with all of it might take a bit." I nodded half heartedly and she tilted her head. "Surely you didn't come right back afterwards, because I don't think we went to bed that early. We would have heard you come in."
