So, the schools in my district all have the same rules of using the internet (e.g., what's blocked, redirects).
And I mean ALL of the schools. The high school, the middle schools, and the elementary schools. All of them have the same blocked websites.Urggggg it's horrible.
So, I was working on some sort of research notes, and oh, look! The perfect website!
I click on it, and BAM!
This website has been blocked by the district.ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I understand you don't want fourth graders streaming CBS shows or whatever, but honestly, can't you have different levels of 'Blocked' for each level of school?
Like, I have a project where you plan a vacation. The school district should realize this, and UNBLOCK TRIPADVISOR AND YELP! I have no ways to figure out where to eat on my hypothetical vacation unless you let me use actual websites!
I mean, what is so bad about Yelp? Some of the reviews could say some 'bad words', but is it really that bad? YouTube isn't banned, and have you seen what people will say in the comments? Yeah. A lot worse than some of the most spiteful reviews, which in my experience go something like "I did not like a damn thing about this restaurant."
Oh, no! The children have read a review with the word 'shit' in it! They are now parading around the city, swearing at the tops of their lungs! They're burning the library! What have we done? We should have blocked those websites, but it's too late now! What can be done to help?
I mean, honestly, what's the worst that can happen? When I was in elementary school, when provided with the internet, I would look up images of animals. I mean, that's pretty much it. I don't know what elementary schoolers are doing nowadays, but most of the won't even try to look at supposedly bad things.
Farewell😘
