Denkei sits cross-legged in the bedroom, breathing deep and rhythmic as he meditates. The blue carpet in this bedroom provides a calming contrast to the wooden walls, and elegant pictures, paintings, and structures are displayed throughout. The room also has a four-legged circular wooden table, a thick book on its surface, its pages wide and well-worn.
Denkei opens his eyes and lifts himself from his meditative position. "Ok, I should be finished," Denkei strides toward the spell book and turns the pages, feeling the whisper of paper under his fingertips. "I need to figure out how to amplify my Magic from base magic to great magic."
Denkei skims through the yellowing pages of the spell book, searching for the page he wants, and his lips curl upward as he finds it. "There we go."
Denkei skims the page before he reads it aloud. "To wend from Base Magic to Great Magic, one wilt learneth the three of the five types of Magic, and ye must be a skillful user in thou. Alchemy, Bindings, Enchantments, Sorcery, and Curses."
"Ok, so far, I've learned Seals and Alchemy and a bit of enchantments, but it's not something I'm the best at. Maybe becoming more well versed in Enchantments would be ideal considering its similarity to Alchemy."
Denkei walks to the wooden closet and opens it, a faint woodsy scent emanating from within. He takes a damp, squishy creature from a cardboard box and lays it on the floor, accompanied by a slight squeak. Denkei returns to the spell book and flips through it, the ink on the parchment glinting in the light. "Enhancements... Enhancements... Enhancements..." Denkei searches through the book until he finds the page he is looking for. "There."
Denkei walks over to the slug and sits cross-legged on the wooden floor. "I call upon the forces of Magic to lead my opponent in disarray! Magic Spell Enchantment: Murky Sight!"
"Dammit, why didn't that work?" Denkei's face contorts with anger as he smashes his hand into the ground. "I call upon the forces of Magic to lead my opponent in disarray! Magic Spell Enchantment: Murky Sight!"
"What the hell is going on?" Denkei grabs his Mage Stick and thrusts it into the ground angrily. "I call upon the forces of Magic to lead my opponent in disarray! Magic Spell: Murky Sight!"
"Alright, that's it!" Denkei flings his Mage Stick against the wall.
As Denkei lingers in his frustration, the sound of the door bursting open gathering his attention. "Who goes there!"
Denkei feels a crumpled piece of paper hit his forehead with a light thud. "What the hell?" Denkei unravels the crumbled paper to see writing, which says, "Enhancement Spells require you to gather something of someone to work. Things like hair, spit, a fingernail, blood, and anything from their physical body are needed for the spell to work. Also, Enhancement spells don't have an incantation dummy. You're welcome - Arturo."
"I hope that wasn't holding me up," Denkei heads back to where he was during spell casting. Denkei places his index finger in the slug-like creature's mouth.
Denkei takes the slug's saliva and rubs it on the orb of his Mage stick. "Magic Spell Enchantment: Murky Sight!" The slug-like creature staggers around the room, creating a cacophony of sounds as it bumps into furniture and walls.
Denkei's lips curl into a sly smile, and he shuffles back to his spell book. "Thank you, Arturo."
Denkei runs his fingers along the pages as he reads about countless enhancement spells, his eyes darting across the script. "Trances...Body Disfigurement... there's so much I can learn...." Denkei hones his skills, performing trance spells until he is exhausted. "I think I should get some rest. I did plenty today."
Denkei sinks into his red and white bedspread, his eyes blankly fixed on the ceiling. "Thank you, Arturo, for finding me..." Denkei's eyelids grow heavy until he sinks into slumber.
We now go into the POV of Overlord sitting in his frigate, surveying the armada, which stays motionless beneath him.
A metal door slides open as a Goblin enters the room. "My Lord! My Lord! We have a spaceship entering the frigate!"
"Good, let them in," The ship enters the frigate, and two wounded Goblins arrive in the room.
"My Lord, we have failed you. We tried to gather the amplifiers for the apocalyptic weapon, but those scoundrels from Ozania's Black Grid Division defeated us."
"Was a high-ranking warrior present or an Ozanian captain?"
"We couldn't tell. It all happened in the blink of an eye! Before we could even grab one, most of our squadron was dead!"
"I see," Overlord rises from his chair and glares at the two soldiers, his eyes like two burning embers. "What's wrong, My Lord? Did we disappoint?"
"Yes, you did," Overlord conjures Spark JōKai onto his finger and incinerates a soldier with a single blast bolt. "Noooo! Why did you kill him, my lord?!"
"The weak have no place in this universe. If a helpless weakling continues to live this life, their chances of survival are slim. I can't have such weaklings within my army if I want to annihilate Ozania," Overlord raises his index finger and summons a stream of Aqua JōKai, its cold water needle piercing the other Goblin's chest.
Overlord walks back to his throne and pushes a red button, causing a loud red beep within the room. "I need service goblins or elves to dispose of the trash in the main room."
"Got it, sir, on the way," says someone over the P. A
Overlord continues his blank stare into the space environment until another beep occurs. "My Lord, My Lord, Ozanian Stingers Have Been Spotted!"
"Good, have your legion get ready. I'm about to begin our defense," Overlord walks over to a control board and presses a blue button with the wording "Universal Microphone." over the top of it. "Everyone! Form your defenses and start our counterattack!"
Overlord watches the space battle rage on through the window, the explosions lighting up the sky outside. We now go into the POV of Overlord two years before the Goblin genocide, his clothing tattered as he enters his home. Isamu jumps out of his polka-dot recliner and rushes to Kazz, his eyes wide with concern. "Son, are you ok? What's wrong?"
"A couple of bullies attacked me and took my money...."
"Again?! Did you fight back?"
"Yes..."
"I see. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine.."
"Ok. I'm just glad you put up a fight.."
"Father?"
"Yes, son?"
"Do you think I can still achieve my dream? Of becoming a powerful warrior like you, and saving the people from mean bullies and evil people?"
"Of course, son, you can do whatever you set your mind to."
Kazz's lips curl upward into a cheerful smile. "Thank you, Father."
We now go back into the POV with Overlord's face contorted in rage, and his fists clasped in anger. "That dream was a fallacy! I can't believe I was naïve enough to think I could make it happen. 'Saving the universe from evil people!' There are too many evil people for me to even think about saving! I'll eradicate Ozania and form an empire of my own! I shall prosper in this war! I will exact vengeance for my fallen brethren and family!" Declares Overlord.
