The end of the holiday had arrived faster than I expected. School had soon started again, and in the meantime, I had told Hermione about my visions as well. But she also didn't know what it meant. The next Quidditch match was in sight now. Gryffindor had to go against Hufflepuff, and I had just heard that apparently Snape would be refereeing. That was bad news, of course. He would do anything to let Gryffindor lose.
"Don't play," Hermione said immediately.
"Say you're ill," Ron said.
"Pretend to break your leg," Hermione suggested.
"Actually break your leg," Ron tried.
"Don't break your leg," I said. "The Healers can probably heal it before the games have even started."
"I have to play," Harry said with a sigh. "There isn't a Gryffindor reserve Seeker. If I back out, Gryffindor can't play at all."At that moment, the portrait went aside and made place for Neville. He kind of climbed through the hole, with his legs tied. They were bound with the Leg-Locker curse.
"Was it Malfoy?" I asked immediately, as I stood up and walked to my brother. I helped him up, and Hermione undid the curse. Still trembling he walked to the chairs.
"Yeah, it was Malfoy," he sighed. "He said he had been looking for someone to practice that on."
"Report him," Hermione said.
"No, I-I don't want any more trouble."
"Neville, you have to do something!" I said. "You've got to stand up for yourself!"
I took his arm.
"Don't you remember how reckless we used to be at home? It didn't matter what mum threw at us, we always did it again. Although it was mostly my idea to do something stupid, but, anyway, what happened to you? Why did you back down?"
"I just don't want to get expelled or look stupid in front of the school."
"Well, Malfoy will learn his lesson, one day. And you look stupid to the school now. If you stand up to Malfoy, it's him who will look stupid."
"I guess you're right."
My brother still looked like he was about to cry, so Harry gave him a Chocolate Frog.
"You're worth twelve of Malfoy," he said. I nodded in agreement.Neville unwrapped the Frog and gave the card that was with it to Harry. The cards with these candies always had famous wizard's on them, but Harry got Dumbledore again. Neville went to bed, and I was just about to go too, when Harry suddenly said: "I've found him!"
I walked back from the door and looked over Harry's shoulder. I gasped.
"It's Flamel!," Harry said. "I told you I had seen him before somewhere. Listen to this: Professor Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the Dark Wizard Grindelwald in 1945, for the discovery of the twelve uses of dragon's blood and his work on alchemy with his partner Nicolas Flamel!"Suddenly Hermione jumped up and came back with a gigantic book. It took a while before she found what she sought, but then she read aloud: "Nicolas Flamel is the only known maker of the Philosopher's Stone!"
"I've heard about that," I said. "What was it used for again?"
Hermione let us read a part that said the Philosopher's Stone produces the Elixer of Life, which would make the drinker immortal.
We guessed that it was this Stone that Fluffy was protecting and that Snape was probably after it.Not long later, the Quidditch match arrived. I wished everyone good luck again, especially with Snape as referee. But Dumbledore would be watching too, so maybe Snape wouldn't dare to hurt Harry or the rest of their team.
I sat down with my friends and brother in the crowd. Unfortunately, I saw Draco in the corner of my eye.
"Ouch," I heard Ron say.
"Oh, sorry Weasley, didn't see you there." It was Draco. I was fixed at the game, just like Hermione, because Snape kept giving Hufflepuff penalties. I also saw in the air the same Hufflepuff boy that had several times made eye contact with me. He turned out to be a Seeker."You know how I think they choose the people for the Gryffindor team?" Draco said aloud, so all of us could hear it. "It's the people they feel sorry for. Potter has no parents, the Weasleys have no money."
I frowned, both at the game and at Draco. Hufflepuff had gained another penalty.
"You should be on the team, Black, you've got no brains."
I turned my head.
"No, not you, Jynx, you're... kinda smart. I meant him." He pointed at Neville.
"Don't you dare say something like that about my brother."
"Or you'll what?"
"You would fight a girl?"
