I hadn't apologised to Neville for being so rude. Instead, I locked myself in my room for hours, where I tried to focus on my homework, and I kept writing letters. I had so many now, I had to put all my clothes on top of the letters and shut my trunk, or else someone would see them. And what a disaster that would be, reading the letters a sixteen year old girl had written to her dead father, thinking it would make him magically come back.
I was finally getting the hang of non-verbal spells, wheras the rest of the class, and not only in Dark Arts, but also in Charms and Transfiguration, was far ahead of me. I was even behind Neville. I found that practicing in my room worked better than in a noisy classroom, and I found myself a bit more at peace.

One early morning, I had awoken before breakfast, and decided, for no reason, to go up to the Owlery, and write a letter there. I silently took my quill, ink and paper and left the room. It was ice cold up in that high tower, but I didn't care. The owls were already awake, and flew about in the soft light of the sunrise. I sat down on the cold floor, leaned against the wall, and wrote, what would be, the last letter to Sirius.

"Dear Sirius,

I really miss you, but I know now, that you cannot come back. I wish I could've said a proper goodbye, but you were gone so fast. I promise that one day I will avenge you, and I will make you proud. You will always be my father. I don't know how Neville and Harry are coping with it, but I'm sure they are not as crazy as me. I guess I just can't deal with deaths, that's been proven before. This time though, I know it's not my fault. Maybe it wasn't Harry's fault either, and it was just bound to happen, but I really do miss you. I know I'll have to live on, and you'd want me to, but it would be so much better if I had someone that could help me with it.
They say you never realise how much you need someone until they're gone, but I've always needed you. Thank you, for being a part of my life, even though it wasn't long. And thank you, for the necklace, it's beautiful.
I love you.

Jynx Aria Black"

I had started crying again, when I rolled up the letter. I stood up, sniffing, and leaned over the side of one of the open windows. I shivered, and Sofia landed on my hand. I stroked her.
"Isn't it lonely, up here? Aren't you cold?"
She only hooted back. I looked outside as the sun rose higher, tears still falling, now on Sofia, probably.
"Sorry," I sniffed, wiping my tears away, and setting her back on the window. "I think I'll go back to sleep. See you later."
I turned away, but before I reached the stairs, a strange sound came from behind.

"Yeah, I've been very lonely."
I turned around in shock. Before me stood a woman, around her twenties, probably, with long, sleek, slightly dirty chestnut hair, and a long, brown dress. I couldn't speak. What just happened?

"I know you're probably shocked, and confused," the woman said. "But please let me explain."
I could only nod.
"I am Sofia, and I used to be your owl. But I wasn't always an owl. I am an Animagus, you see. An unregistered one, however."
"Why- why didn't you just turn back, then?" I stumbled.
Sofia smiled sadly.
"I couldn't. I was... let's say cursed, of a sort."
"Why?"
"It was an accident. It usually doesn't happen, and I don't think there are many like me. You see, some people are born an Animagus, it comes naturally, but some practice to become one."
I understood. Sirius had become an Animagus along with his friends to help Lupin.

"My Animagus form didn't come so naturally. I always loved birds, and I had always wished I could become one, but when I was twenty, I finally discovered my Animagus form, the owl you know. But the problem was, I couldn't seem to get out of it anymore. I couldn't transform back to my human form."
"That's terrible," I whispered.
Sofia nodded, and walked around as to stretch out from being trapped in such a small form.
"For a while it was pleasant, but my parents didn't know, and they thought I had gone lost, or kidnapped, or worse, and even though they got the Ministry of Magic to try and find me, they couldn't. I didn't know what to do."
