Chapter 13: The Truth

I hid around a corner when Snape and McGonagall sped past me, not noticing me. Where were they going?
I ran to where they came from, and after a few minutes, I arrived at a half open door. I peeked inside and saw Harry and Dumbledore sitting, and Moody lay unconscious on the ground. But it wasn't quite Moody. He was changing. His wooden leg made place for a normal one, his fake eye popped out, and under it was a regular eye. His face changed, as well as his hair, and then a man was there, that I didn't recognise.
I jumped when McGonagall and Snape were behind me again, along with Winky.

"Crouch!" Snape said. "Barty Crouch!"
Wait... Barty Crouch? Junior? Mr Crouch's son? He was alive?
Then Snape turned to me.
"What are you doing here? Haven't you caused enough trouble?"
"Let her in, Severus," Dumbledore said. "Miss Black also deserves to know the truth, as she has been a part of this. However," he said, looking sternly at me, "she will have a lot of explaining to do after this is over."
I nodded.
"I agree," I said softly.
I went inside and took a seat next to Harry, who looked just as confused at the man on the ground as me.

"Master! Master Barty!" Winky said, running to the unconscious man. "You is killed master's son!"
"He is simply stunned, Winky," Dumbledore said. "Step aside please. Severus, do you have the potion?"
Snape handed Dumbledore a potion, who poured a bit of it inside Crouch's mouth, and then said, "Enervate," pointing his wand at him. Winky stayed trembling on the floor, hands over her face.

"Can you hear me?"
"Yes," the man said, slowly opening his eyes.
"How did you escape Azkaban?"
"My mother saved me. She knew she was dying, so she asked my father to save me as a last favour to her, as he loved her. He agreed, so they visited me in Azkaban, where they gave me a Polyjuice Potion with one of my mother's hairs. She drank it with one of mine, so we looked like the other. The Dementors didn't sense her entering with my appearance, and me leaving with her appearance. My mother died a while later, and was buried under my name. Everyone believed it.
"What did your father do with you, when you were home?"
"He staged my mother's death. A private funeral, and that grave is empty. But I had to be controlled, so my father used the Imperius curse on me. I had to wear an Invisibility Cloak day and night."

"Did anyone else, besides your father and the house-elf, know you were alive?"
"Yes, a witch in my father's office. Bertha Jorkins. She came to our house, with papers that needed my father's signature, but he wasn't home. Winky let her in, and returned to me. Bertha heard us talk, and heard enough to know who was under the cloak. When my father came home, she confronted him. He put a very powerful Memory Charm on her, so powerful, that it damaged her memory permanently."

Then he talked about the Quidditch World Cup. His father had let him go, under the Invisibility Cloak. He sat in the Top Box, next to Winky, pretending to save his father a seat. But there were times he could fight the Imperius curse, and in the Top Box, he had done so. He stole Harry's wand, without Winky noticing. In the forest, he had grown angry towards the free Death Eaters, and Winky, who was afraid, had bound herself to him. He casted the Dark Mark into the sky, but was later hit with a Stunning Spell from the Ministry wizards, just like Winky. That's how they found her, with Harry's wand, and how he dismissed Winky.

Voldemort- his master- had come for him at home, beacause he had found Bertha Jorkins in Albania, and tortured all the information she knew out of her. About things like the Triwizard Tournament, and that Moody would be there. Voldemort put mr Crouch under the Imperius curse, and released his son from it.
Then Crouch Junior went with Wormtail to Moody- the real Moody- and put him in a magical trunk (I was guessing he was in the one in this room, as Harry quickly looked at it). He made a Polyjuice Potion, and used Moody's hair, leg and eye.

Wormtail and Voldemort stayed at his house to keep watch over his father, but he also began to fight the Imperius curse, and that was dangerous. But Wormtail wasn't watchful enough, and he escaped. Voldemort sent Crouch Junior a message about it, and to stop him from telling everything to Dumbledore. He used the Marauder's Map, which he had gotten from Harry, who thought he had seen Crouch Senior on it. At the strange encounter of Harry, Krum and Crouch Senior, he came in his Invisibility Cloak, stunned Krum, and killed his father.
