"I'm sorry, we really can't stay."
"You can always come back, though," Lydia said with a sad smile.
I smiled back, but I knew we couldn't come back. If the Death Eaters found out we were in league with Harry Potter, they would definitely come after Neville and me for information. We only endangered Lydia and her family if we stayed longer. It was better if we stayed with the Weasleys. We had been barely two weeks at the Jones', but mr Weasley had sent us an owl that he would pick us up tomorrow, because they had a safety barrier around the Burrow, so the Death Eaters wouldn't detect anyone.Neville and I had started packing our trunks, but it was really hard hiding Sam, my Pygmy Puff, from Lydia and her parents. He constantly tried to get out of my trunk, but he wasn't really the usual Muggle pet, so it was better if I hid him. Neville even had more luck to keep Trevor, his toad, in a box.
"I just, I don't understand why you can't stay," Lydia said.
"It's complicated," I sighed. "It's part of the things we're not supposed to tell you."
"Look at it like this," Neville said, who stood by the window of our packed room. "We're friends with a boy, and someone bad is after him. He wants to kill him, but the thing is, he doesn't know where he is. So everyone that is close to him, and he finds, he will torture for information. If we stay here, and flee when that man comes to find us, he'll torture you and your parents for information, too."
Lydia opened her mouth, but was too speechless to say anything.
"I know, it's a lot to take in."
"It's just, won't you two be in danger then?"
"Probably, but we will never give our friends away," I said.
"That's brave of you," Lydia said.
I smiled. The next day, mr Weasley stood ready with his car to take us.
"Goodbye, and be careful," Lydia said, giving me a hug.
"I will, I promise," I said.
We thanked mrs and mr Jones for their hospitality once again, and followed mr Weasley to the car."Good to see you kids again," he said. "Molly was getting seriously worried about the two of you, first of all because you don't have a proper house, and secondly because you're still under age and still got the Trace on you."
"Understandable," I said. "We don't turn seventeen until the thirtieth, a day before Harry's birthday."We rode past mum's house, and I shivered.
"This is where we used to live," Neville said.
"Big house," mr Weasley mumbled. "Don't see your mum anymore, do you?"
"No," we sighed. "It's strange, though," I said. "One moment, we had two parents, and the next, we lost both."
"Yeah," Neville said. "But even if we wanted to go home, mum would never let us set foot in the house again. I bet she noticed us there, at the funeral of Dumbledore, but she ignored us as hard as we ignored her."
"At least you have each other," mr Weasley smiled."Are Harry and Hermione already at the Burrow?" I asked, changing the subject.
"No, they'll track Harry down, since he isn't seventeen yet, and Hermione still had things to do, but we have a plan to move Harry to us, without the Death Eaters noticing us. We've set them on the wrong track, so they'll think we're moving him the day before his birthday, when we're actually doing it in a few days."
"That's smart."
"We've also got protective enchantments around the Burrow, so it'll be quite safe there."We were warmly welcomed by mrs Weasley, Ginny, Ron and the twins. They were all glad to see us.
"Long time no see," I chuckled to Ginny and Ron.
"We haven't seen you in a long time though," Fred said.
"Yeah, it grows silent without the two of you at Hogwarts," Neville said.
"Anyway, how's the shop going?" I asked.
"Great! We're making loads of money now," George said.Later, Fred and George told us about the plan.
"Tomorrow, Bill, Fleur and the others are coming. This is the place everyone will gather in the end."
"Then we're going to Privet Drive with the bunch, but not you two, and Ginny neither, you're all underage."
"And then?" I asked.
"We're drinking Polyjuice Potion, at least, six of us, and then we fly in pairs to a different house, where we use a Portkey to get back here."
"Wicked," Neville whispered.
"Sounds dangerous, though," I said. "Why are you flying? Are there Death Eaters ready to attack or something?"
"Yes, they're always watching now. Especially Harry's house."
