Chapter 8: Maybe They'll Believe Now

More students came back from there holiday that day, since we had lessons again the next day, including Cedric.
"Jynx, where were you? I looked everywhere for you. I thought something bad happened to you."
"Well, not to me," I said. "Sorry, again, for leaving so sudden. I really had no other choice. I'll explain later."
We found a calm spot in the library, and I told Cedric in short how mr Weasley got injured, that Harry and I had a vision about it, that Dumbledore sent us away immediately, and that he was healed now.
"Well, couldn't you sent me an owl?" he asked.
"Owls are being watched, it's too dangerous to send them now. I could've left a note somewhere, I guess, but it all went so fast."
"Yeah, that's true. Good to hear mr Weasley's fine now, he's a nice man. Wonder why he got attacked?"
"We've been wondering the same thing. We reckon You-Know-Who sent his snake to look for a 'special weapon' he really needs. We just don't know what it is."

Harry had his first Occlumency lesson with Snape the next day, and he came from it with news. When Snape attacked his mind, he made Harry remember his own memories as well. He told us that the corridor he had dreamed about for months was not random, it was the corridor leading to the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry, were he had ran through with mr Weasley when he had to go to his hearing.
"It's the same place where mr Weasley got attacked," he told Hermione, Ron and me in the library.
"Of course," Hermione said. "Sturgis Podmore was trying to get through a door at the Ministry- it must have been there! It's too much of a coincidence."

The next day, terrible news came. Hermione's Daily Prophet arrived, and suddenly she gave a shriek.
"What?" Ron and Harry asked.
Hermione spread the paper out on the table, and I leaned over from Hermione's other side to see what the headline said.

Ministry fears Black is 'rallying point' for old Death Eaters

The pictures showed nine wizards and a witch, the escaped Death Eaters, apparently.

Antonin Dolohov, Augustus Rookwood, and Bellatrix Lestrange were among them. Bellatrix... she looked like me, and like Sirius. She was his cousin, after all.
I looked at Neville, who looked frightened. When Ron and Harry were done reading the paragraph, she let Neville and me see. However, when she made eye contact with me, I saw a bit of a shock in her eyes, as if she was looking at Bellatrix Lestrange directly.

The piece said that Fudge blamed Sirius for the breakout, since he and Bellatrix were related.
"It's not Sirius's fault!" Neville said furiously.
"Of course not, but what else could Fudge have said?" Hermione said. "'Sorry everyone, Dumbledore warned me that the Azkaban guards would join Voldemort?'"

Hermione ripped the paper open and gave a gasp again.
"There's more?" Neville said.
She showed us the paper. A patient in St Mungo, called Broderick Bode, was found dead, strangled by a Devil's Snare, in his bed.
"We saw him," Ron said. "When you two were drinking tea, we accidentally came across Lockhart, who is permanently there, and in the same room was Bode. The plant had been delivered as a Christmas present."
"That can't be an accident," I said immediately. "Someone wanted him dead."

"I met Bode," Harry said suddenly. "I saw him at the Ministry, with your dad."
"I think dad's talked about him!" Ron said. "He worked at the Department of Mysteries!"

We now worked harder than ever with the DA, and Neville was almost mustering spells faster than me. He was doing really good.
I was being stared at in fear by students in the corridors, because if they had read the Daily Prophet, they'd have seen Bellatrix, and she could have almost been my mother. I tried to make my hair look as smooth as possible, but it was no use.
