"So, are you guys going to do it?" Ron breaks the silence the boys have been walking in since leaving the Three Broomsticks.
"Are we going to do what?" Harry looks over at Ron, the four boys are walking side by side back to school.
"Start dating?"
"I don't know, I'll have to talk to Seamus about it," Nott looks further down the trail, "I don't want to."
"Maybe." Malfoy looks away thinking.
"No." Harry doesn't have to think about it, "I might just stop hiding it all together. I mean, it's not the same for me as it is for them." Harry waves at the Slytherins, "My folks are dead, Sirius is dead, Lupin is dead, my Aunt and Uncle hate me anyway, I don't think your family will care since I'm not really family especially now with the whole Ginny thing. I've been thinking about what I want to do after school and I don't want to be an Auror anymore... so, who cares? I mean, the papers might have fun with it but they published worse things than what is ultimately the truth anyway. I don't want to use someone just to protect myself... and that includes you Malfoy, you can't shelter me forever. I mean why? Why would you be willing to do that anyway."
"So, are you going to start dating blokes?" Ron grimaces.
"No, there's no one really to date in school even if I wanted to, which I don't."
"What are we then?" Nott smiles bumping into Harry.
"You're taken is what you are Nott, anyway... I don't want to date. I just want this year over with. We haven't even started classes yet and I'm regretting coming back."
"Weasley." Malfoy frowns, "Do you think Ginny would date Harry's sworn enemy to make him jealous? I mean, it would get her off his back and be a good front for me?"
"You're not my enemy, Malfoy."
"You're not dating my sister! I don't care if it is a farce, she doesn't deserve that." Ron stops to stare at Draco.
"She does deserve it." Malfoy continues, "Anyway, I'm just thinking about possibles... I don't want to use anyone either. Too bad we don't know any girls into girls, they would make the best covers."
"We can't date anyone in our year, they won't believe we're into them." Nott sighs.
"That's not true, no one knows if your gay or bi or whatever." Ron says, "Remember, Boot was taking bets on what you guys are. None of you have said either way."
"That's true." Nott narrows his eyes, "Wait till I see that bastard again."
"What about Parvati, Harry? She was coming on pretty strong this morning, I mean, when has she ever sat with us before?"
"I'm not dating anyone Ron. Anyway, I took her to the Yule Ball and that was a disaster. Why would she want to try again?"
"That was four years ago, Potter." Malfoy smirks, "People change."
"Maybe. It's all pointless anyway. I mean, dating me... are they really dating me or are they dating The Boy Who Lived? I can never tell."
"This sucks, let's talk about something else." Nott kicks a stone down the path.
The sky is turning dark as they make their way back, it's getting cold. They notice the students walking back to school further up the path have stopped. They can see their breath.
"Shit!"
"I thought all the dementors were in Azkaban?" Nott whispers as they watch two dementors swoop out of the sky and attack the people in front of them.
