Ernie, Seamus, Blaise and Kyle leave the locker room. His uniform is wrinkled but he refused Ernie's offer to charm it pristine. His mother is coming, she can see how her son truly is, a fucking mess.
"I'm not going to hide in Coach Malfoy's room." Kyle broods as he walks with the three 8th years back to the castle. "The more I think about it, the more I just need to get this over with."
"What do you want to do?" Ernie asks. "Harry's not going to be happy about this."
"Harry's not my keeper, he's not my father, and I don't need him to save me from my own mother."
"I don't think he meant that." Seamus frowns, "He just wants to help, make sure you're safe."
"Save me?" Kyle smirks, "Fuck that, I don't need another goddamn Gryffindor trying to save me."
"I don't believe showing you that he cares and wishing you safe is the same thing as trying to save you." Blaise grins, "Although you're not wrong about that house and their incessive endeavors."
"Oi... making sure people are ok isn't wrong." Seamus growls, "Especially those we care for."
"He doesn't give a shit about me."
"You're wrong, and I know you're stressed but he gives a shit." Ernie sighs, "This isn't going anywhere. You're obviously having a horrible day... tell us, what do you want to do if not hide?"
"I want to go to my head of house. Professor Flitwick will make sure I survive. If I make her hunt me down, it'll only get worse. I won't meet her alone, but I will meet her. She'll take it out on Glenn and Gloria if I don't. They shouldn't have to deal with her ire since I'm the one who caused it. I knew what I was doing when I sent that letter."
"Why would you send that letter if you knew she wouldn't take it well?" Seamus asks.
"I had to." Kyle laughs, "It's all part of the plan. Go big or go home."
"Or never go home at all, in your case." Ernie looks to Kyle, watching the dark-haired boy walk with his hands shoved in his pockets.
"Macmillan!" Blaise frowns, "Honestly, it's a bit too soon."
Kyle laughs again, it's a nervous laugh, "He's not wrong. Mother can't disown me, but Father's in India, she doesn't have to allow me home. I will probably spend the holidays here."
"Was it worth it?" Seamus asks.
"Yes, it's worth it. Being allowed to be my own person is worth it; avoiding a loveless marriage is worth it; being honest is worth it; and there's something else that's more than worth it. What would you give up for your freedom? I'll lose Mother, but I will still have Father and the twins in some way."
They enter the castle and head to the Great Hall, dinner just started. They knew they'd find Professor Flitwick there. The hall's attention went to the group of boys as they strode up to the head table.
Gloria is sitting with the Ravenclaws, having just arrived back from cleaning herself up. Glenn is still missing.
Kyle approaches Flitwick, whispering urgently to his head of house. Snape bent close to listen to what could bring this odd group of boys in the state they're in. Flitwick nods his head, ushering Kyle out with him.
Blaise, Seamus and Ernie aren't sure what they should do. Do they follow them, do they go back and tell the others of the change of plans, should they wait and have dinner? The three boys look awkwardly at each other.
"Shit." Ernie rubs his face as the three other seekers run into the hall.
Ian dashes to them, "What happened, where is he?" He whispers to Seamus as he watches as Kyle's sister leaves the hall.
