The Great Hall fell silent as the 8th years put on another show of their maturity and impeccable examples of being role models. Before the war, jinxes and hexes were how students attacked each other but now, apparently, fist fights or muggle duels are the way to go.
Ernie Macmillan and Theodore Nott, two of the brightest wizards of their year, fought in the middle of the Great Hall. The Hufflepuff table was both in shock and went wild as Ernie was clearly winning. They haven't been this excited since Cedric was picked to represent their school in the Tri-Wizard tournament; and now another one of them is winning against a Slytherin. Clearly not the same, but still, a Hufflepuff represents.
The professors run to break up the fight as the Great Hall erupts into chaos. People from all tables stand or shout; some wanting to get a better view, others starting to take bets until it's clear that the fight is heavily favored for Ernie.
"Why would he start a fight with the Hufflepuff if he couldn't take him?"
"Badgers have been known to take down snakes in the wild."
"Wasn't that guy Head Boy last year?"
"Why isn't anyone breaking this up? Look, the 8th years are just watching."
"This is ridiculous, I mean honestly, you would think they would want to be a better example for all of us."
The flash of a camera blinds one of the 7th year Hufflepuffs. It's not aimed at her but the fight. Simon is cheering and taking pictures before Snape pushes him out of the way. Instead of going back to his table, he's going to sit with Kyle. He can't get to Ian right now, his best friend. He snaps a picture of Harry and his boyfriend. Any picture of Harry Potter will make money but one of him with his boyfriend's head buried in his chest will make even more. Especially since he lost the picture of them kissing.
"Scoot over, Kyle." Simon bounces behind him, before squeezing in next to his second best friend. "Can you believe it? We kicked that Slytherin's ass. Us, Hufflepuffs! This is crazy, don't you think this is crazy? I wonder why Blaise and Coach Malfoy and Coach Goyle aren't helping their friend."
"He did start it." Kyle sighs, he likes Simon, he likes the second year a lot, but he's exhausting. He has so much energy, if he could bottle that amount of energy, he'd be first in his year.
"Yeah, but Ernie finished it." Simon punches his fist into his palm. "BAM! You're down snake!"
"Why aren't you saying this to Daisy?" Kyle smiles at him. Simon didn't notice in his excitement that Daisy was on the other side of Kyle.
"Honestly Simon, is that how you think of us. It's very rude." Daisy sniffs.
"Not you Daisy, never you, you're not like that." Simon pales, "I didn't mean it was like all the Slytherin's just you know the..."
"Assholes?" Ian joins the Ravenclaw table across from Kyle, Simon, and Daisy.
"Did you hear what that was about?" Simon bounces in his seat.
"No." Ian smirks, "I sit with the 3rd years, so we're half a table away. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Hufflepuff cast a silencing spell. We could feel the magic, it was a strong one."
"Well, I for one think that all this violence is no good for the morale of our school. We're supposed to be working on interhouse unity and look." Daisy points to where Ernie is laughing against the wall, "Slytherins are working very hard at being part of the school and we were attacked."
"He hit him first." Ian points to Theo who is still on the floor.
"I'm sure that he was being cruel. That boy is very quiet and reserved, whatever your Hufflepuff said must have caused the fight. See, Slytherins are being attacked and it's breaking the house unity."
