The atmosphere in the hangars was tense as you, Soap, Ghost, Alejandro, Rudy, and Graves awaited the arrival of the two new shadows. "I am not looking forward to this," Soap's whispered remark resonated with your apprehension, "me either," you replied in agreement, sharing the sentiment. As the plane touched down, the deafening roar of its engines filled the space, prompting you to instinctively cover your ears until the noise subsided. With the engines silenced, the two shadows emerged from the aircraft and made their way towards Graves, who greeted them warmly, offering his hand in welcome.
"From one desert to another, how was the flight?" Graves inquired, his tone congenial as he shook the hands of both arrivals. "Good, Commander," the man replied confidently, while the girl echoed a similar sentiment with a respectful "Good, sir." Graves nodded in acknowledgment before introducing Alejandro and Rudy, emphasizing the importance of respect within their base. Alejandro and Rudy reciprocated with firm handshakes, welcoming the new arrivals. Graves then redirected his attention to you, "And this is TF141, you'll be in their quarters so I expect you to treat them like family." Graves reiterated, his voice carrying the weight of authority.
The girl practically bounced over to you, her eagerness palpable as she exclaimed, "Another girl! So good to meet you." Her energy was reminiscent of a rookie who had just completed basic training, and it grated on your nerves, though you maintained a polite facade. You heard Ghost chuckle softly beside you, prompting you to shoot him a pointed glare, silently conveying your annoyance. You give her a curt nod in acknowledgment, but then, she grabs your hand and starts shaking it vigorously. "I'm Ava, but everyone calls me Rocky," she chirps enthusiastically.
You snatch your hand back, your patience wearing thin. "Serpent," you respond tersely. Ava gasps, clearly impressed. "Wow, that's a cool name," she gushes. "Thanks," you reply, the irritation evident in your tone. She then moves on to Ghost, attempting to initiate the same interaction. Ghost, however, remains silent, his expression impassive as he ignores her attempts. After a moment, he speaks up, his voice firm. "This is not an icebreaker. We aren't children." After her failed attempt at engaging with Ghost, Ava seems undeterred as she moves on to introduce herself to Soap, Alejandro, and Rudy, who respond with varying degrees of politeness.
Just as the introductions are wrapping up, you hear the sound of footsteps approaching rapidly. Moments later, Keegan bursts out, exclaiming excitedly "Viper!" Keegan exclaims before running up to the man and hugging him. "Keegan, good to see you again," Viper says, reciprocating the gesture warmly. Keegan then turns to you and says, "This is who I was talking about. Viper, this is Serpent, Ghost, and Soap. Guys, this is Viper." Viper gives everyone a nod, acknowledging the introductions, and everyone reciprocates with a nod or a greeting. You appreciated Viper's composed demeanor, contrasting with Ava's exuberance. Viper seemed more approachable and easier to get along with, which put you at ease.
"Alright everyone, I've got some things to attend to." Graves said before walking off, but before he left he turned and said, "and be nice to eachother." You acknowledged Graves' departure with a nod, your gaze following him briefly before turning to Alejandro. "Could you please show them around?" he asked, his tone heavy with concern. Your sigh echoed the weight of the moment as you considered the task at hand, but you met Alejandro's eyes with a nod, accepting the responsibility.
