A Month Later

____________________________

The days turned into weeks, and the cold embrace of December now surrounded you. Adjusting to living with Alex had become second nature, and the ache in your heart had begun to ease over time. "Alex, will you still be here when I get back?" You asked, sliding your purse onto your shoulder. "I'm not sure, that girl from down the street hasn't responded yet." Alex replied. "I'm sure she will, just give her some time." You reassured him as you grabbed your keys. "Please make sure to keep my house clean while I'm gone." You reminded him with a stern look. Alex raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, I promise." He said. "Okay then, I'll see you later." With one last glance at Alex, you closed and locked the door behind you. Today was the day of your appointment, where you would finally find out if you were truly pregnant. The anticipation and nerves mixed together inside of you as you drove towards the doctor's office.

As you stepped out of the car, you couldn't help but feel the weight of your decision hanging over you. It had been over a month since the night you and Simon had shared, and now it was time to face the consequences. You nervously made your way inside the clinic, barely managing a smile for the receptionist as she checked you in. After what felt like an eternity, you were finally called back to the exam room. You took a deep breath and tried to calm your racing mind as the nurse began the pregnancy test. The seconds ticked by slowly, each one bringing you closer to finding out the truth. Finally, the nurse returned with the result. "Congratulations!" she said softly. "You're pregnant, about a month and two weeks along."

A wave of emotions crashed over you as you processed the news. It felt like the world around you had come to a standstill, the only sound echoing in your ears was the thundering of your heart. The nurse's words seemed to linger in the air, both a blessing and a curse. You thanked her with a tight smile, trying to mask the whirlwind of thoughts raging inside you. As you stepped out of the clinic, the cold December air bit at your skin, but it was nothing compared to the storm brewing within you. The weight of this revelation bore down on your shoulders, a mix of fear and uncertainty clouding your mind. You knew this was a pivotal moment, one that would shape the path ahead in ways you couldn't yet fathom.

Heading back to your place, each step felt heavier than the last. You needed time to process this life-altering news, to make sense of what it meant for you and for Simon. The thought of him flickered in your mind, consumed by a mix of joy and sorrow. You missed him more than ever, the pain of his absence gnawing at your heart. As you entered through the front door, you caught sight of the framed photo you had left on the table, a reminder of the life you shared. It showed you both, smiling, the night's events captured in a single shot. You lingered for a moment, the memories flooding back, the warmth of his embrace, the tenderness in his touch. "Simon," you whispered softly, your voice barely a breath. "I miss you."

You reached out to touch the photo, your fingers grazing the glass, feeling the coldness against your skin. The distance between you seemed to grow, the weight of your decisions felt heavier. You placed the frame back on the table, taking a moment to gather your thoughts before making the next move. You needed to talk to him, to understand where you stood in the chaos of your life. With trembling fingers, you picked up your phone and hesitated before dialing Soap's number. The sound of the ringing echoed in your ears, each second feeling like an eternity until finally, he answered: "Y/n!" His voice was slurred and music played faintly in the background. Your heart raced as you tried to find the right words.
