Beneath the shimmering moonlit sky, you and Alex side by side, the soft glow illuminating your faces as you took turns explaining the tumultuous past 20 years to each other. You recounted how you had gone AWOL to seek revenge on the man responsible for ordering the deaths of your parents and countless others. "That's badass," Alex remarked, admiration evident in his voice. "It nearly landed me in prison," you replied with a wry smile. "But it was worth it." As you continued explaining, Alex looked around at your surroundings. "I remember him saying that our parents weren't the good people we thought they were," you shared. "I called him a liar." You paused, remembering how fiercely you had defended your family's honor. "You know Y/n, he wasn't entirely wrong," Alex said quietly. You turned to him, confusion etched across your face. "What do you mean?" you asked. "The reason he ordered their deaths was because many of the higher-ups were involved in illegal weapon deals off the books," Alex explained gravely. "The government swept it under the rug to protect their own interests. Called it a terrorist attack."
The weight of his words settled on your shoulders, a heavy burden to bear. "That can't be true," you whispered, struggling to come to terms with this new information about your parents' deaths. "I wish I was lying," Alex said solemnly. You stopped walking and placed a comforting hand on his arm. "Why did you leave me there?" you asked, your voice shaking with emotion. "I needed you to be safe," Alex replied, squeezing your hand gently. "And I needed to find Mom and Dad." You turned to look at him, searching his eyes for answers. "Did you find them?" you asked hesitantly. A pained expression crossed over Alex's face as he nodded slowly. "They were both shot," he said quietly, his voice laced with regret. "But they were still breathing. I dragged them behind a bar counter and they told me to never give up on my dreams, and to take care of you. They said they loved us dearly..." His voice trailed off as he fought back tears.
"I feel like I failed them," Alex admitted, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "You didn't," you insisted, coming to a stop and placing both hands on his arms. "You did the opposite. You kept me safe by finding a spot for me for Price to find." The mention of Price's name caught Alex's attention. "Wait... Price? As in Captain Price?" he asked incredulously. You nodded, a small smile playing at your lips. "He found me," you continued, a hint of awe in your voice. "After that day, he took me back to Manchester and raised me as his own. It was a huge political issue for the SAS, so they had to keep it quiet. Only a few higher-ups knew where I came from or what had happened to my parents. But eventually, everyone just accepted me as one of their own." You couldn't help but reminisce about your time growing up among the soldiers, surrounded by stories and legends of bravery and sacrifice.
"Wow," Alex whispered, his eyes wide with shock. "I owe him one." You shook your head, the weight of their secret still heavy on your shoulders. "You owe him nothing," you said, remembering how they had kept this from you for so long. "They meant no harm in keeping it from you. They just wanted to keep you safe." But you couldn't shake off the feeling of betrayal and anger. "I can protect myself. They knew it was wrong to keep something like that from me," you argued. "Do you really think they did it to hurt you?" Alex asked, his voice filled with concern. "You love Ghost, don't you?" Tears threatened to spill from your eyes as you thought about him. "I do...or at least I think I do. But I can't face him right now." Alex's hand reached out to comfort you but stopped midway. "Mom and dad kept secrets from us too, not to lie, but to protect us," he said softly. "If we had found out any sooner, it could have put us in danger. You know how important being mentally prepared is in our line of work."
"So you're not mad at them?" you asked, surprised by his understanding. "Honestly, I'm just glad I'm here with you," he replied, giving a small smile. A sense of warmth spread through your chest at his words. "Me too." "But maybe I was a bit harsh towards them," you admitted, shrugging helplessly. "But I feel like I had every right to be." You said with a sigh. "We should probably head back now," Alex said, breaking the comfortable silence between you two. "We'll have to deal with this eventually." You nodded in agreement and turned to walk back, feeling grateful for your brother's support during this difficult time.
