With a groan, you slowly opened your eyes and found yourself in a sterile white hospital room. The constant beeping of the monitors filled your ears and you could feel tubes and wires attached to your body. You turned your head and saw a nurse typing on her laptop at the bedside. "Oh good, you're awake," she said with a friendly smile. "Let me go get the doctor." You could only manage a weak nod, exhaustion still weighing heavy on your body. The pain was now minimal, but your mouth was as dry as a desert. Looking around, you couldn't help wondering where everyone else was. Especially Ghost.
As you waited for the doctor, you reached for the TV remote resting on your bedside table and began aimlessly flipping through channels. You stopped on the news, listening as they described the potential terrorist attack that had happened the night before. Then the door opened and an older woman in a white coat walked in. "Hello Y/n, I'm Doctor Vallez," she said sweetly, taking a seat on the rolling chair next to your bed. "How are you feeling?" "Hey," you responded dryly. "Before we go over things, do you need anything?" She asked kindly.
"Some water please," you requested. The doctor nodded to the nurse who then left the room. "Five bullet wounds...you got yourself into quite some trouble," the doctor remarked with a hint of amusement in her voice. "Something like that," you replied with a small smile. The nurse returned with a cup of cold water and you downed it instantly, grateful for the relief it brought to your parched throat. "Everything is stable now. We managed to restitch your old wounds and stitch up the new ones," the doctor explained. "Thank you.. when can I see everyone?" You asked anxiously, craving some sense of familiarity.
"In just a moment. But first, there's something I'd like to discuss with you," the doctor said, her expression serious. You raised an eyebrow and nodded for her to continue. "We took some samples of your blood and noticed elevated levels of hCG. This indicates that you could potentially be pregnant," she explained. You couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. "There's no way.. how can you even tell that early?" You asked. "Blood pregnancy tests can detect hCG as early as 11-14 days after ovulation. And a quantitative blood test can give us an estimate of how far along the pregnancy has progressed," the doctor clarified.
The reality of the situation hit you like a ton of bricks. A child? Already? You loved Ghost, but the thought of being a mother so soon was overwhelming. You rubbed your temples, trying to calm your racing thoughts. The heart monitor next to you beeped faster, signaling your increased heart rate. "No.. I can't be.. I still have so much to do," you murmured, looking down at your hands. Dr. Vallez placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. "There are always other options," she reassured you. "For now, get as much rest as you can and drink lots of water. And absolutely no more cigarettes," she instructed firmly."Alright.. thanks," you muttered, feeling overwhelmed with emotions. The doctor asked if you wanted to see anyone and you declined, only requesting to see Price.
A few moments later, Price entered your room, his face softening when he saw your tear-stained cheeks. "Hey Y/n," he said softly as he sat on your bed. "They said you only asked for me. Are you okay?" He asked with concern. You shook your head and started crying again, unable to contain your feelings any longer. Price immediately pulled you into a warm embrace. "What's wrong?" He asked gently. "It's just.. a lot right now," you sobbed, feeling overwhelmed by everything that had happened in such a short span of time. How were you going to tell anyone about this unexpected news? "Listen to me," Price whispered, his voice steady and calm. "We'll get through it together. And if you need to take some time for yourself, we'll make sure that you have everything you need, okay?" You nod, feeling a little better with Price's words. "Thank you," you manage to say.
