As the afternoon progressed, you found yourself in the common area with Soap, watching as Keegan and Viper caught up outside on the basketball court. Their easy camaraderie was a stark contrast to the tension brewing inside. Ghost was busy brewing tea while Ava continued her incessant rambling beside him. Her questions about British culture seemed to irritate Ghost more with each passing moment, his patience wearing thin.

You couldn't help but turn your head in Ava's direction as she posed another question. "Why do British people like tea so much?" Ghost's sigh was audible as he struggled to maintain his composure, his annoyance evident in his response. "Why do Americans like hamburgers so much?" She let out a giggle and said, "I'm actually vegan."  Ava's revelation only seemed to add fuel to the fire, prompting an exasperated reaction from Ghost. His frustration was palpable as he muttered, "Bloody hell," clearly struggling to keep his cool amidst Ava's relentless inquiries.

Amidst the brewing tension, Soap glanced at you with a knowing look, silently acknowledging the chaotic scene unfolding before you. You shared a brief understanding exchange, both equally bemused and irritated by Ava's persistent questioning. As Ghost attempted to maintain his composure, you couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for him. Dealing with Ava's incessant chatter seemed to be testing his limits, and you wondered how much longer he could keep his cool. Meanwhile, Keegan and Viper's laughter drifted in from outside, a stark contrast to the strained atmosphere within the room.

It seemed that the peaceful afternoon you had hoped for was quickly slipping away, replaced instead by the chaotic energy that now permeated the room. As Ghost approached with the cup of tea, his movements were deliberate, each step carrying a sense of purpose. The steam rising from the mug hinted at its warmth, inviting comfort on a chilly evening. "Tea?" he asked and you nodded. You accepted the offering with gratitude, cradling the mug in both hands to absorb its heat.

Ava's voice cut through the moment, her playful complaint breaking the tranquility of the scene. "Aw, none for me?" With a scoff, you shifted your attention to the TV remote, searching for a distraction from the brewing tension. Ghost's response was firm, "you saw me making it the whole time, if you wanted some you should have asked." Taking his place beside you, Ghost settled in, his own cup of tea in hand.

"Well she didn't ask." Ava's interruption injected a note of discord into the room, her crossed arms and defiant stance reflecting her frustration. Before Ghost could address her remark, you intervened, redirecting the conversation with a gentle yet decisive suggestion. "Ava, why don't you find us something to watch?" Handing her the remote, you offered Ava an opportunity to contribute positively, diffusing the tension with a simple gesture. A flicker of surprise crossed Ava's face, quickly replaced by a bright smile as she accepted the remote. Her willingness to engage in the task hinted at a desire to belong, and to find her place among the group.

As Ava eagerly took the remote and began browsing through the channels, you couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that she had finally found something productive to do. Ghost's now calm demeanor seemed to have a soothing effect on you, and you found yourself grateful for his presence amid the chaos. With a contented sigh, you took a sip of the warm tea, savoring its comforting aroma.  As Ava excitedly settled on a movie, you glanced over at Ghost and he offered you a small smile of gratitude.

As you finished your tea, you observed Ghost slumbering peacefully beside you, his head tilted back in repose. Deciding to take advantage of the quiet moment, you made your way to the weight room, with Soap following closely behind. "She's a piece of work," Soap remarked, setting up the weights for your session. With a resigned nod, you acknowledged his comment, a hint of weariness evident in your expression. "Hopefully it's only temporary," you murmured, your voice tinged with a note of hope, as you gathered your hair into a ponytail, preparing to focus on the physical exertion ahead.

As you began your workout routine, you and Soap seamlessly swapped positions, taking turns spotting each other as you lifted the weights. The rhythmic sound of exertion filled the room as the conversation continued. "So, what's your take on them?" Soap asked, his voice carrying over the clinking of metal. You paused for a moment, considering your response, before replying, "They seem... eager. But also a bit clueless." Soap chuckled in agreement. "Yeah, Ava's got a lot of energy, that's for sure. But Viper seems solid. Reminds me of someone." You nodded in acknowledgment. "Yeah, Viper's got a calm vibe. It's a welcome change." As the conversation flowed between sets, the camaraderie between you and Soap provided a brief respite from the tensions of the day.

Between sets, Soap wiped the sweat from his brow and leaned against the bench. "You think they'll adapt quickly?" he asked, glancing over at you. You shrugged, taking a moment to catch your breath. "Hard to say. It depends on how well they mesh with the team and how fast they can adjust to our way of doing things. We're not the Shadows." Soap nodded in agreement. "True. Let's hope they catch on soon. We need all hands on deck, especially with everything heating up." You resumed your workout, the weight of the conversation lingering in the air. Despite the uncertainties, there was a shared determination between you and Soap to weather whatever challenges came your way.

You took a moment to sip your water, feeling the cool liquid refresh your parched throat. "What's with you and Ghost?" Soap's question caught you off guard, and you glanced at him, eyebrows raised in confusion. "What do you mean?" you asked, wiping the sweat from your brow as you looked at Soap. He chuckled, a knowing glint in his eye. "You and Ghost, you've gotten pretty tight lately. What's the secret?" You shrugged, trying to play it cool. "There's no secret. I suppose we just... found common ground, I guess." Soap's expression turned skeptical, and he raised an eyebrow. "Common ground with Ghost?" he echoed, his tone indicating disbelief. "I've known him for a while, and he's not exactly the type to bond over shared interests."

You let out a small laugh, conceding the point. "True, but sometimes you just click with someone, you know?" Soap nodded slowly, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "Yeah, maybe," he mused, leaning back against the wall. "Or maybe Ghost sees something in you that the rest of us don't." You frowned, feeling a mix of uncertainty and curiosity. "Like what?" you pressed, genuinely intrigued. "I think he's taken a liking to you." Soap's remark lingered in the air, and you couldn't help but scoff at the idea. "Taken a liking to me?" you repeated, shaking your head incredulously. "I think he tolerates me, at best. We've just been focused on the job."

Soap's expression remained unreadable as he leaned back, contemplating your response. "You don't know him like I do," he stated cryptically, his tone implying there was more to Ghost than met the eye. Your curiosity piqued, and you narrowed your eyes at Soap. "What's that supposed to mean?" you prodded, sensing there was something he wasn't saying outright. "Just watch, you'll see," Soap replied enigmatically, his gaze distant as if lost in thought. It left you with more questions than answers, a sense of intrigue stirring within you as you wondered what Soap knew about Ghost that you didn't.
