As Ghost paced around the room, you watched him with a mixture of concern and curiosity. His movements were restless, each step echoing in the silence of the space. You could sense the weight of his thoughts pressing down on him, the tension in his shoulders evident even through the fabric of his uniform. "Hey," you said softly, breaking the silence as you stood up from where you were sitting. "Are you okay?" He paused mid-stride, turning to look at you with a furrowed brow. "I don't know," he admitted, his voice tinged with frustration.
"What happened on the base?" Ghost's question hung heavy in the air, his voice laced with a mixture of urgency and concern. You could see the tension in his features, the furrow of his brow deepening as he awaited your response. "I was in your office.. and.." you paused, the memory of discovering the recording device sending a shiver down your spine. Ghost's gaze intensified, waiting for you to continue. "And there was a recording device I found," you confessed, your voice barely above a whisper.
"A recording device?" Ghost repeated, his eyes widening with a mix of disbelief and concern. The gravity of the situation seemed to weigh heavily upon him as he processed your words. "Yeah," you confirmed, feeling a knot form in your stomach. "I don't know how long it was there or who planted it, but..." Your words trailed off, the implications sinking in. "I bet it was that Ava girl," Ghost speculated, his tone filled with suspicion. "What makes you think that?" you inquired, intrigued by his deduction.
"All the times she came to my office with some bloody excuse," Ghost explained, his frustration evident. "She was probably looking for somewhere to plant it." You nodded in agreement, recalling the numerous times Ava had appeared in Ghost's office under questionable circumstances. "Where was she during all of that?" Ghost asked, his brow furrowing with concern. "Not a clue," you admitted with a shrug, feeling a pang of unease at the thought of Ava's possible involvement in the turmoil that had unfolded. "How much do you think they heard?" you asked, a tinge of worry creeping into your voice as you recalled the intimate moments shared with Ghost in his office.
"I don't know," Ghost admitted, his voice tight with frustration. "But if they heard anything... we need to be prepared for the consequences." He glanced at you, his eyes filled with worry and determination. "We'll have to watch our backs." Your brows furrowed before you said, "Consequences? For what we did nothing wrong." Ghost put a gloved hand over his face and sighed, "Y/n, I'm supposed to be your lieutenant," he murmured, his voice laced with concern and a hint of frustration. His eyes bore into yours, searching for reassurance amidst the turmoil. You felt a pang of guilt gnaw at your insides, realizing the complexities of your relationship within the rigid hierarchy of the military.
"I know," you replied softly, your voice barely above a whisper, your hand reaching out instinctively to touch his arm in a gesture of comfort. "But we're in this together, aren't we?" you added, your voice trembling slightly with emotion as you sought to convey your unwavering support. Ghost met your gaze, his eyes reflecting a myriad of emotions—doubt, determination, and a flicker of vulnerability. For a moment, the chaos around you faded into the background, leaving only the two of you locked in a silent exchange of understanding. "Always," he finally said, his voice steady and resolute, as he gently squeezed your hand in reassurance, a silent promise echoing in his touch.
