A Few Days Later

_________________________________

The days had passed quickly, and before you knew it, that was the last night you and Simon really spoke to each other. The tension between you two had dissipated during your time spent talking and engaging in activities with your brother and friends. You had even made amends with Price, but for some reason, you and Simon had grown distant over the past few days. You couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness at the growing rift between you, a stark contrast to the closeness you had shared just a few nights ago. The weight of unspoken words and unresolved emotions lingered heavily in the air whenever you were in the same room, casting a shadow over your interactions.

One evening, as you sat alone in the dimly lit living room area of the house, thoughts of Simon consumed your mind. The flickering flame of a candle on the table cast dancing shadows on the walls, mirroring the turmoil within you. You couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted between you and Simon, and it weighed on you like a stone in your chest. Lost in your thoughts, you didn't notice when Simon entered the room until he was standing right in front of you. His gaze was intense, searching yours for something unspoken. There was a vulnerability in his eyes that you hadn't seen before, a rawness that mirrored your own inner turmoil. For a moment, neither of you spoke, the silence heavy and charged with unspoken words hanging between you like a thick fog.

Finally, Simon broke the silence, his voice barely above a whisper. "Y/n," he began, his expression pained yet determined. "We need to talk." Your heart clenched at his words, a mix of dread and longing swirling within you. You nodded slowly, unable to find your voice as you braced yourself for whatever was to come. Simon took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving yours. "I've been struggling, Y/n," he confessed, his tone laced with a vulnerability that tugged at your heartstrings. "With everything that's happened, with us..." His words hung in the air, heavy with unsaid emotions that had simmered beneath the surface for far too long. You felt a lump form in your throat as you met his gaze, seeing the turmoil and conflict etched on his face. The flickering candlelight cast shadows across his features, highlighting the raw honesty in his eyes. "I-I think we should call it off for now." Simon said lowly.

Your heart sank at his words, the weight of them crashing over you like a tidal wave. The air in the room grew thick with tension, the unspoken anguish hanging between you both like a heavy shroud. You struggled to find your voice, to form the words that would express the turmoil raging inside you. "I understand," you managed to whisper, your voice barely above a hoarse murmur. The pain in Simon's eyes mirrored your own, reflecting the shared agony of letting go of what could have been. You watched as he reached out a trembling hand towards you, only to retract it before making contact. The gesture hung in the air, a poignant reminder of the distance that now stood between you. "I'm so sorry," Simon murmured, his voice heavy with emotion. "I never wanted to hurt you." You nodded slowly, trying to swallow past the lump in your throat. "I know," you replied softly, your voice trembling with unshed tears.

. As the day arrived for you and your brother to leave on an early flight back to Manchester, Price drove you to the airport with the rest of the team tagging along. "Remember, no pubs past 2, and absolutely no taxis. You know how I feel about taxis," Price reminded you as he occasionally glanced at you through the rearview mirror. "Yes Price, I remember," you replied with a soft smile. Simon sat in the passenger seat, his gaze fixed out the window. "Looks like I'll have to visit Manchester soon, huh?" Soap said from next to you. "You better," you replied with a smile. As you pulled up to the airport, Gaz and Keegan helped bring your bags inside while the rest of your team said their goodbyes. "Well, this is it for a while," you said, looking at your teammates.

"I had a great time," Gaz said as he shook your hand. "Oh come on," you said playfully as you pulled him in for a hug. "I'll see you soon Y/n," Soap said as he hugged you tightly. "Oh also make sure to lock all doors and windows when you're back in Manchester. Crime rates there have skyrocketed," Price added before giving you a tight hug. "I'll see you soon too, Price," you said, returning the hug. You looked over at Ghost, whose expression was unreadable behind his mask. "Bye Simon," you said, giving him a small hug. "Bye Y/n," he replied with a cold tone, his emotions seemingly shut off. As you hugged Gaz and said your final goodbyes to everyone, tears started falling down your cheeks at the thought of leaving Simon behind. But what hurt the most was seeing him turn his back on you. As he walked away, you couldn't help but feel your heart break.

"We'll see them soon, Y/n," Alex said, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder. You continued watching Simon until he turned around, his eyes searching for you in the crowd. Your gaze met his and you held it as tears continued to stream down your face. He could see the pain in your eyes and it broke him. Without hesitation, he started walking towards you and you did the same. Before you knew it, your walking turned into running and you threw yourself into his chest as soon as he opened his arms. You took in his scent and cried into his shirt, feeling all the emotions that had been building up over the past few days.

"I'm sorry Y/n, I'm so sorry," Simon whispered as he held onto you tightly. "I know," you sobbed, pulling away from him slightly. "Will I see you soon?" Simon asked, desperation now lacing his voice. "You will," you promised with a soft smile. He held onto your hands, not wanting to let go. "Simon, I have something to tell-" you started before being interrupted by Alex. "Sorry Y/n, but our flight leaves in five minutes. We have to go now," Alex announced regretfully. "What is it Y/n?" Simon asked, concern etched in his features. "It's nothing. Be safe okay?" You said, wiping away your tears. "You know I will," Simon replied with sincerity in his voice.

"You must promise me that you will take care of yourself," you said, your voice barely a whisper you he locked eyes with Simon. His gaze held a mix of longing and regret, a silent acknowledgment of the complexities that lay between you. "I promise," he replied, his voice filled with determination. "And you? Will you be okay?" You offered him a small smile, laced with a bittersweet sadness. "I will be," you assured him, though the words felt heavy with unspoken truths.

The sound of your boarding call echoed through the airport, a painful reminder of the impending goodbye. With a heavy heart, you turned to walk with Alex towards your gate, each step feeling like a weight on your chest. As you reached the entrance, you stole one last glance back at Simon, who stood rooted to the spot, watching you with a mixture of longing and regret in his eyes. As you boarded the plane and settled into your seat, memories of the past few days flooded your mind—moments shared with Simon, both tender and tumultuous. You couldn't shake the ache in your chest, the unresolved emotions swirling within you like a storm. The plane's engines roared to life, drowning out the cacophony of thoughts in your mind. As the aircraft taxied down the runway, you couldn't help but steal a glance out the window, your gaze searching for a familiar figure in the crowd below. But Simon was nowhere to be seen, lost in the sea of faces that blurred together in the distance.

The plane ascended into the sky, carrying you further away from him with each passing second. The weight of his absence settled over you like a heavy shroud, a constant reminder of the fractured pieces left behind. You closed your eyes, trying to block out the memories that threatened to consume you whole.
