He looked like a kid who had just been invited into a castle he'd only ever dreamed about. As if this wasn't the same bed he laid on a few hours ago. His wide-eyed wonder made me want to laugh... or roll my eyes.
"I don't know how to feel about it. I don't think I should spend the night in your bedroom. It feels... inappropriate."
What a dork.
"Just sit your ass down. You don't have to feel anything. You can't, remember?"
He shrugged and sat, but his eyes still wandered around the room like it was a museum exhibit.
"I didn't mean it literally," he said. "Also, no offense, but this place is a disaster. Let me tidy it-"
"Miles," I groaned. "Shut up, okay? I let you stay, so take the win. I'm not always this nice. Actually, I never am. I just... I owed you. For earlier. For covering for me."
It wasn't even a lie. And for once, saying something genuine didn't make me want to punch myself.
Then it hit me-he was still in that uniform. Technically, he didn't need to change, or sleep, or exist the way humans did. But the sight of that tidy, always-perfect outfit made me twitch.
"...so if you don't sleep, how do you... rest?" I asked. "Don't tell me you never do. I'll flip."
"I don't get tired," he said calmly. "I enter energy-saving mode, but that's it. I stay alert in case you need me."
You keep forgetting I'm not a living creature.
Maybe I did. Or maybe I just didn't want to remember. Especially not when he sat there like that, calm, quiet, obedient... and not the least bit metallic.
"Fine. Then 'rest' here, in the armchair. And tomorrow we're getting you new clothes. That damn uniform is driving me insane."
He gave me a look. One of those subtle, bemused looks like I'd just declared war on ties.
"You're serious?" he asked, half-laughing.
"I'm fucking serious, you asshole. If I have to see you in that outfit one more day, I'll barf. End of story."
"You're oddly demanding. It's almost... cute."
I glared.
"Don't push it."
His smile faded, and for some reason, it felt like I'd yanked the mood down with me.
"What?"
"It's just... sad, really. That your parents give you money instead of time. I'm not a parent, or someone's child, but if I had makers that could be here... I'd want them to be."
I looked away. For someone with no emotions, he sure had a way of twisting the knife.
"I don't care," I lied, curling under my blanket. "Now shut up and-"
I stopped.
That damn uniform again.
"...take that off."
He paused.
"Unless you're naked under it. Then don't."
"I'm not naked," he replied, unbuttoning his vest. "I wear the same layers humans do."
And then he started unbuttoning the shirt. Slowly. Carefully.
I told myself not to look. That it wasn't a big deal.
But I looked anyway.
His torso was lean, sculpted, ridiculously realistic. Every detail, from the tone of his skin to the way the muscles moved beneath it, made me forget for a second that he wasn't human.
"That's enough," he said, stopping before it could get more awkward.
"Y-yeah," I stammered, turning my back. "You're... fine."
Too fine.
No idea what would've happened if he'd taken off the rest. I wasn't ready to find out.
I wrapped myself tighter in the blanket and stared at the wall like it owed me money. He settled into the chair without another word. Maybe I was finally rubbing off on him.

The next day was weirdly normal. No gossip about Lorette. No chaos. Apparently, she was "sick." Right. Sure.
When school was over, I was practically bouncing with excitement. Yeah, sue me-I liked buying clothes. Especially when it meant dragging my assistant out of that creepy-perfect uniform.
But when I walked outside, there he was.
Waiting for me.
Like a damn rom-com scene.
And of course, Alexander saw it first.
"Aww, look. O'Hara got himself a babysitter."
I was about to reply when Ryan-useless, smug Ryan-added, "Nah, that's not a babysitter. That's his boyfriend."
Middle finger up. Walk away. Don't kill them.
I stomped straight over to Miles, fuming. He looked sheepish.
"I shouldn't have come, right? I wasn't supposed to leave, but I thought-"
"You thought wrong," I hissed. "Just... wait at home next time."
He looked genuinely apologetic. Dammit.
Still, we left for the mall. I was starving, cranky, and embarrassed. But at least I could buy him new clothes.
That, somehow, made it better.
Almost.
