Miles' POV
Thankfully, it wasn't too late. I called an ambulance right away. I wanted to follow them to the hospital, but they didn’t let me in since I’m not a family member—and I'm a humanoid. I wanted to inform his parents, but what if they’d just get mad? I felt helpless. They had the right to know about their child. And honestly? I can’t even say I’m surprised. Only shocked. It was just a matter of time. I feared this. I tried to prevent it, but I failed. He was too deep in his own darkness, and I couldn’t reach him.
I had to wait outside. I tried to get answers, to figure out what would happen. Then, his parents arrived—even though I hadn’t contacted them yet.
"Where is my son?!"
"Ma’am… I’m sorry. I don’t know. I got him here as soon as possible—"
"What the hell were you doing?! You’re supposed to take care of him! We bought you to be there for him!"
They kept yelling, scolding. I took it. I understood. I let them down. Their child almost died on my watch. Because I wasn’t enough. Because I wasn’t capable.
"I apologize... I failed. I understand if you want to punish me. Once Will is back, I promise I’ll do better. Or… I’ll leave. He can get someone more suitable."
"We’ll discuss that later. But we can agree on one thing—you failed miserably."
It felt like hours. Mr. O'Hara kept pacing, looking for a doctor. His wife sat and cried. I was silent. I had so much to say—but not to them. I just wanted to help Will. If I could love, maybe this wouldn't have happened.
I love you too.
It sounded nice. Simple. But it was foreign. I didn’t know how to feel it. Still, I kept wishing.
Will always thought he didn’t deserve love. That he was too much. Too broken. And yet… he was the only one capable of it.
While I sat there, his father kept tossing insults at me.
"You're a very expensive piece of trash. That’s all you are. You tempted and ruined our son. He was never gay! Now he’s confused and lost! He thinks he loves you! You made a fool out of him! Once this madness ends, we're getting rid of you."
"I'm sorry, Mr. O’Hara. I don’t know if I tempted him... I kept telling him he shouldn’t have feelings for me. But that's not how it works."
"You will stay silent from now on! I don’t want to hear another word from you!"
That was it. My fate was sealed. I prepared myself for the worst. I accepted their disappointment. I accepted that I failed.
"Somehow, I can't see how this is my Miles’ fault. He’s done his best. No offense, but I can’t say the same about you two."
I turned to look. It was Hector.
I didn’t know why he was here—but I prepared for an argument.
Hector’s POV
As you know by now, Miles is my most special creation. For reasons I won’t explain now, his chip signaled me that he was outside. The moment I saw he was in a hospital, I came. I assumed something serious happened. I didn’t plan to get involved—but this was different.
Those two were tearing into him. Blaming him for everything, without thinking.
"Mr. O’Hara, with all due respect, isn’t Miles in your home because you two never had time for your own son? Yes, he should’ve been more aware, but Miles isn’t his lover. He’s not his parent."
"Mr. Santos, I don’t know why you're here, but you have no business with our family. Unless our son did something wrong, I suggest you stay out of this. Your humanoid failed, and now William is here—probably fighting for his life."
"And I’m sorry for that. I truly am. But if you say Miles failed, maybe ask yourselves who failed Will first. Why did he need a humanoid in the first place? Not just because he was acting out—but because he was alone his whole damn life. Miles might not be human, but he’s done more for him in a few months than you two have in over twenty years."
"The nerve of you—! I suggest you take that machine and leave. You’re the reason this happened."
"Am I? Because if I recall correctly, Will learned how to love—because of Miles. And I’m proud of that. Once he’s out, I’m taking him to my place. He won’t be alone again. And I’m taking Miles too. You won’t need to worry anymore. He told me how you treated him. Especially after he came out."
"I swear to God, I’ll punch that smug face of yours! Don’t pretend you know anything about us! He’s not gay, he’s just—"
"I had sex with him. He’s gay. And I love him."
Silence.
Maya and Rowan O’Hara looked like they’d just swallowed razor blades. Miles looked stunned too—but not nearly as much as them.
They didn’t expect that.
But it was the truth. I didn’t come here to argue. I came here because that boy—flawed, messy, wild—got under my skin. I wanted him for one thing at first. But the more time passed, the more I thought about him.
"That’s right," I repeated. "I love him. And I want to take care of him."
"Since when do you feel this way?"
I turned. It was Will. Bandaged arms. Pale skin. And that same stubborn look in his eyes.
Just the way I liked it.
