Namjoon - some things aren't meant to last

It felt like I was stuck. I had no idea where to go or what to do with my life. One minute I am doing so well with my studies and getting the grades I needed to get but lately it feels like I've been stuck in this one spot for a lifetime and I have no way of getting out of it.

"Y/N, we're heading down to the arcades if you wanted to join?"

"I'm ok got this big exam I need to study for. Have fun though"

"Maybe next time you'll join?"

"Can't make any promises, but will try"

She gave me a hug before leaving the house. I share a house with my two best friends since elementary school. They go to the same university as me but take different courses and their exams aren't until a month after mine since they both started university a year after me due to taking a gap year to travel, however, I made the decision to stay in Seoul to focus on studying as I just wanted to get it out of the way before I focused on anything else.

Which brings me to my boyfriend, Kim Namjoon. The boy I met in my first year of university but we didn't start dating until a year later. We clicked when we were assigned a project together and ever since he's been like my little support when I need. He was meant to come over tonight so we could have a study date but he won't be here until 9pm due to a family dinner.

"Y/N, I'm here. Sorry I was late"

"Don't apologise, you're here now. Let's study. I have some snacks and drinks on the side"

We shared a kiss before getting on with our studying. Namjoon didn't even have any important projects or tests coming up but he insisted on coming over to do some studying anyways, but I know he is just here to support and help me as usual. I know he means well but I know when to take a break from studying.

"What part of the course are you on?"

"Wellbeing of individuals. This part is easy to do so I'll be done in like 10 minutes"

"Ok it's just there's this light festival happening right now and I didn't know if you wanted to go quickly. Get some fresh air"

"Where is it?"

"By the Han River there will be fireworks in 20 minutes"

"Sure, I suppose it would be nice to take a break after this hour of reading"

"Great, let's go. It will take us roughly 10 minutes if we catch the next bus"

"Alright"

We grabbed our stuff and headed out. I sent a message to the girls that Namjoon decided to take me out so if I wasn't home that would be the reason. We soon arrived at the river and the lights illuminated the area as people walked around admiring them. The walls lining the river around the park were lit up with colour changing lights, I got my phone and took some pictures including a couple of Namjoon and I. The cool breeze felt nice in the evening stripping away any stress that I had inside.

"Y/N did you want anything to eat?"

"Just a drink please Namjoon"

"Alright"

I watched as he walked towards the convenience store as I found an empty bench for us to sit on. I will admit it felt nice to get out and not study for a change.

2 weeks had pass since I last saw Namjoon. I tried to arrange a date but he always had a family emergency which was fine at lease I could focus on the last subject for my exam. All this studying will be worth it and hopefully this will be my last ever exam I will have to take. I walked towards the school but stopped when one my best friend was calling my name.

"Y/N, thank god"

"What happened?"

"You haven't heard?"

"Heard what, Jeni?"

"Oh gosh, umm I don't know if we should tell you or if you should go find Namjoon"

"Tell me please"

"Namjoon is getting married"

"Huh?"

"I know it was rude to do but I overheard him in a conversation with his parents at the restaurant last night and they were discussing his marriage to another girl. I am not sure when or how he was going to tell you but I just couldn't hide it from you"

"Oh, umm. I am not sure what to say. Thanks for telling me. I guess I will just wait and see if he tells me"

"Are you going to be ok?"

"I will be once I hear this news from him. It's kind of a lot to take in. I've got to get to class. See you at lunch"

"Bye. Let me know if you need me to punch him"

"Thanks Jeni"

I walked away towards my first lesson as I thought about when he would tell me or even how he would tell me. It's such big news. I also thought about if he said yes or no to it.

ONE WEEK LATER

Nothing else had been said to me about the whole Namjoon marriage conversation. I hadn't even heard it from his own mouth. Did he actually say yes to it or is he still thinking about it. It was Saturday so I decided to take myself to the mall and go shopping with Jeni. She had been helping me with being distracted over the news.

"I know we've been trying to think about other things but do you think he will ever tell you?"

"I am not sure. I mean big news like this definitely takes time to sink in and make a decision about. I am sure he will tell me once he has made that decision. Although if he has said yes it will hurt and we'll no longer be together"

"What will you do if he has said yes?"

"I will take it as a sign from the world that maybe me and my heart weren't meant for this relationship. Of course I'll cry for a while but something like this cannot be helped"

We carried on walking around the shopping centre and soon headed back home to find Namjoon and Lucia in the living room.

"You're both back. Please sit we need to talk"

"Everything ok?"

"Umm, I've had a lot of time to let this sink into my head but my parents have arranged my marriage for me"

"That's amazing. Who is this lucky guy who gets to marry our best friend?"

"Umm, that's why I've had to think about this a lot..."

Lucia lifted her head up and looked to her left as my eyes followed her movements they soon stopped and fell on Namjoon. He said yes.

"Oh"

"We're so sor-"

"Don't even finish that sentence. Don't even sit there and say sorry when you had the chance to say. This is your best friend and your girlfriend have you forgotten that"

"We had no choice. This was to save both our family businesses"

"You both had a choice and you chose the wrong one. You choose your reputation over a friendship and relationship. Well I hope you both have a happy marriage. Did you not think about how this would hurt Y/N"

"Jeni, stop. Let them do. Let them let go of this friendship and relationship. We'll leave whilst you pack your stuff"

"But I don't have anywhere else to go"

"You have your husband's place. Go there"

"Y/N-"

"Please don't say anymore Lucia. You've made your decision now you have to live with it. And as for you Namjoon, you've been quiet the whole time. All I can say is what was I made for? Just to fill in the gap until something this came up. Thank you for letting me experience the relationship we had and most importantly thanks for telling me right before I had my big exam tomorrow much appreciated. You may leave when you are finished"

Namjoon stood up but I grabbed Jeni and walked back out of the house. Some things aren't meant to last forever and that's ok.
