Year 3809 — Planet Venarith — Section Okto

A young girl sat at the edge of the wide window sill scribbling away at what looked to be a drawing of the scenery outside. Her thick brown lashes batted as her eyes focused back on the holographic screen in her lap.

Below the window was a view of a large city that stood in the valley. The city glowed blue in the darkness with two moons also giving it light.

Hovering vehicles darted from place to place like little bugs. The atmosphere was calm as if nothing could disturb it.

Just beside her sat an older woman with straight light brown gently rocking back and forth. The woman softly rubbed her swollen belly, comforting her tired body in the rocking chair.

"What are you drawing, Raea?" The woman's voice echoes the room, peering at the focused girl.

Not wanting to look away, the girl answered as she continued to draw, "The city. The lights. They're pretty."

She smiled grimly at her daughter. "Indeed they are."

Astraea didn't pay any mind to her words, only focusing on trying to finish the drawing she started. She would complete it no matter what.

The pen tapped against the holographic pad creating the only noise in the room other than the squeaking of the chair.

She looked up only to glance at her muse before she noticed something. The lights flickered then extinguished on the corner of the city, one by one they blew out.

The girl narrowed her blue-grey eyes trying to find the source of this new occurrence. Placing her pen down in her lap, she shifts closer to the window, peering down.

Flashes of black sped by near where the lights were going out.

"Mommy, look." She pointed through the glass pane. "The lights are disappearing."

This brought a frown to her mother's face. As quickly as she could, the pregnant woman stood from her seat, rushing to her daughter's side.

Her chocolate brown eyes widened at the sight before her, a fear crawling up her arms.

Then, a scream ripped through the air making the two turn towards the direction of the grey door.

At the same time, a tremor shook the rosy pink painted room, sending the mother to grab hold of her daughter's hand. The tablet the girl was writing on fell from her lap and onto the hardwood flooring.

Astraea now felt the fear that her mother was experiencing through the tight grip she had around her wrist.

"Listen to me carefully. Do not make a sound and follow my every direction." Her mother ordered with a fierceness in her eyes.

The shouts only got louder and closer with each passing second. And without another word, Astraea's mother bolted towards the door, dragging her behind.

The hall was empty other than the yells that echoed through them. They ran briskly in the opposite way of the noises. Their slippers tapped along the floors as quietly as they could while running.

Their dresses shuffled as they ran, slowing them down. The mother took a left turn down another hallway lit with blue cyber lights that were beginning to flicker.

Then a scratching sound was heard behind them, only getting louder and louder as they ran.

Astraea was lagging behind so her mother tightened her grip, pulling her closer. Just as they were about to reach the doorway to the outside, a loud roar shook the hallway causing them to lose their balance.
