Year 3828 — COSMIC Headquarters — Section Meden
The morning passed rather quickly and it came time for the battles.
"Renan and Synthia, you're up first." Calyx called out as the rest of the squad sat near the edge of the large room, behind a plane of glass material.
A short black haired girl walked onto the mat, standing across from Renan. The mat was larger than the one in the training room, this was to provide more space for the use of Helixes.
Synthia Bevryn.
Unlike Izmeria and Azzara, Synthia was a sweet girl and Astraea loved her company. She was Renan's partner when it came to missions because Astraea already had El as her partner.
Her Helix was called Clone, the ability to duplicate herself. The limits included that she could only make two of herself and she could only copy herself.
Other than that, Astarea thought it was pretty fascinating.
Synthia squared her feet, bending her knees slightly as she got into position. Renan watched her movements carefully waiting for Calyx to give the queue.
"You may begin." Calyx lifted his hand for them to start.
Without another notice, Renan was first to begin, taking out a handful of salt. Synthia also acted, rushing towards him before separating into two.
The two came to each of his sides with a dagger in each of their hands. Thinking quickly, Renan raised his hand creating a mist of salt before Synthia could touch him.
All Renan had to do was make the salt hit an opponent's eyes and they would be blinded giving him enough time to defeat them. And that is exactly what happened.
The fight took only about two minutes before Synthia cried out. "I yield, I yield." Renan had her pinned to the mat, her clone gone because she was distracted by the salt.
"Match goes to Flyx!" Calyx shouted, jotting down on a tablet in his hand.
"You okay?" Renan lifted his arm to help Synthia up.
"Yeah, just need to get the salt out of my eyes." Her eyes were teary as she rubbed them. Astraea kind of felt bad that Synthia had to experience it. She knew what it was like to have that salt in her eyes.
She would scold Renan anytime he would attempt that move on her in training. The stinging of the salt didn't pass even after ten minutes of rinsing her eyes with water.
"Synthia, work harder on keeping your eyes focused. Don't give your opponent the time to distract you." Calyx advised at the woman who was two years older than Astraea. Though some of the squad members were older, they each entered in different years.
If you weren't fortunate to enter in your teens, then you were entered in your twenties. Synthia was one of these cases. She started her cadet years when she was twenty and had only three years of training before she was given any missions. But she was a quick learner.
Astarea was sometimes envious of her since, Synthia had been able to go on countless solo missions even before she could. Out of the entire squad, Astraea was the only one who hasn't been on one.
She had only been on a few squad missions in Section Meden, the rest of the squad missions she was excluded due to reasons unknown to her.
"Renan, trying using the salt in a different manner, you never know who you might encounter. Some other species don't have eyes in order to be distracted like that." Lieutenant Calyx always found some way for each of the squad members to improve. He truly understood what it took to become better.
