PRISONER OF AZKABAN
✩ ✩ ✩
LYRA WAS EAGER to get back to hogwarts for this term. she was eager to see everyone, especially the diggorys. cedric and stella diggory had become like her rocks at hogwarts. ced was practically like her big brother, as he took her immediately under his wing first year, showing her the ways of the school, and helped her through her lessons. estella was the girls best friend. she was the only friend she didn't have to share with draco, which made the girl happy.
obviously, lucius was not pleased when he was informed of his daughters house. he had sent her many angry letters and even went to the headmaster to tell him that the hat made a mistake, but his daughter remained a hufflepuff.
the entirety of their time away from school, lucius wouldn't let his daughter hear the end of how disappointed he was in her, how much of a disgrace she was to the family name, narcissa however, told her daughter she was proud of her, told her not to let anyone change her. told her she loved her, and to not listen to her father.
now, the girl was sat on the train, venus curled up in her lap, looking like a little pile of fluff. draco sat next to her as lyras head rested on the boys shoulder, his arm draped over her shoulder as he held his twin sister close, and she began drifting off to sleep against him.
moments before, harry had walked past them, him and lyra shared a strange eye contact as he did so. she and harry were... sort of friends-ish. she'd talk to him from time to time, and she pushed the feelings she had for him first year so far down they would be stupid to come back out. she had, however, become good friends with hermione, as she sat next to her in potions, at a table with ron and harry also but, she mainly talked to hermione while there. they'd also study together and just read in silence together in the library. she was one of lyras dearest friends at the moment, and she was glad she had someone like hermione. someone who would put her in her place to keep her out of mischief, but still had a side to her that would help her to get into mischief sometimes.
she knew her brother hated her friendship with granger, and would often times get angry at his sister for being friends with "a filthy mudblood" and tell her she was a traitor to the family name, and pureblood everywhere, and then completley ignore her for a week. but they'd always find their way back to each other, and draco would apologize continuously until the girl forgave him.
"lyra!" a voice pulled her out of her near sleep and she looked up to see stella stood near herself, draco, crabbe, and goyle, and smile back at the girl as she rubbed her eyes, "you should come and sit with cedric and i, we have a lot to catch up on."
"okay!" with no hesitation, lyra pulled away from draco, holding her cat up close to her chest and went to go with her friend, "see you later, dray." she gave her brother a thin lipped smile as stella interlocked her fingers with lyras and pulled her with her, they found their way to cedric's compartment and sat down with him, "how were your summers? i'm incredibly sorry i didn't write, i have a very... interesting family and i was quite busy trying to make my father like me again."
"it's completely fine, lyra." cedric smiled sweetly at the younger girl, who he viewed more as a second sister to him than as his friend, "as for us, we didn't really do much other than i taught stell my secret quidditch skills."
"are you joining the team stella?" lyra asked, tilting her head to the side as she looked at her best friend
"i'm gonna try out for his year i think." she replied with a small nod, mixed with a tiny shrug. the diggory girl pet the top of venus's head as the cat purred in lyras lap.
"that's incredible, stell." lyra grinned at her friend, before her face dropped suddenly, and she felt extremely cold, and she felt the train come to a sudden stop, "what's going on?" she looked at cedric, expecting him to know the answer, but he just looked around, just as confused as the two girls he was with. stella reached for alyras hand, holding it tight as the window started freezing over and the lights flickered off.
"no idea."

"FINALLY." alyra smiled as she walked into the school, venus tucked in her arms as the cat slept peacefully there, lyra stroked the cat sweetly, her soft purring sound heard as she napped. she allowed the sweet cat to remain asleep in her lap once she sat down in the great hall beside cedric at the hufflepuff table.
"welcome, welcome. to another year at hogwarts." the girl sat up straighter as dumbledore spoke up, his voice echoing through the hall, "now i'd like to say a few words before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast. first, i'm pleased to welcome professor R.J lupin, and his kindly consented to fill the post of defense against the dark arts teacher. good luck professor."
"snape does not look too happy." lyra whispered lowly to cedric as the pair clapped for professor lupin, who stood up to make himself seen to the students
"has he ever looked happy?" cedric asked making the girl chuckle a little
"well, i've seen him smile a select few times." lyra told the older boy, "i mean, he is my godfather after all. so, if i'd never seen him smile even once i don't think that'd be a good sign."
"oh, really? i hadn't known that." cedric looked at her with a bit of a shocked look as she said that, nodding slowly, "we learn something new about you everyday, malfoy."
alyra only laughed at him quietly, going to say something in response but quickly stopped when she noticed dumbledore had started speaking once again, "...care of magical creatures teacher for many years, had decided to retire. in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs. fortunately, i'm delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our own... rubeus hagrid."
lyra cheered again, she'd always liked hagrid a good amount, she thought he was very nice and he had always favored her over her brother so, that was an added bonus in her book.
absentmindedly, her eyes drifted towards the gryffindor table, making eye contact with harry. his bright green eyes staring back into her
blue-ish ones. the second she noticed he caught her looking at him, she looked away quickly, holding her cat closer to her in her lap.
"finally, on a more disquieting note," dumbledore began once more, "at the request of the ministry of magic, hogwarts will, until further notice, play house to the dementors of azkaban," lyra furrowed her eyebrows and looked towards cedric, who just looked back and returned the same look to her, "until such time as sirius black is captured. the dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. now, while i've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities... a word of caution. dementors are vicious creatures. they will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. therefore, i must warn each and every one of you. to give them no reason to harm you."
alyra pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, chewing on it nervously as she listened to his words, she was slightly freaked out by the idea of dementors being in the school. she zoned out for the rest of dumbledores speech, her gaze stuck on her cat sleeping peacefully in her lap underneath the table as her hands stroked venus's light orange fur.
