With her head slightly bowed, Kaede stood in front of the principal, who had been waiting for her. The girl held her rucksack in her hands, which she dangled in front of her. She was not ashamed. But having to stand in this office on her first day of school wasn't exactly great.
"I've heard that you threw objects at some of the older students and hurt them." said the man with the glasses, who had put his arms on the table and propped himself up a little.
"What made you do it?" he asked immediately, before even considering giving her a punishment. "They bullied and laughed at a younger student." Kaede said. "They...sort of...deserved it."
The man exhaled softly. "It's all very well for you to stand up for people like that. But violence is no solution to these problems." he reprimanded Kaede, who already knew that.
"I used words after that. Maybe not very nice ones, but I couldn't think of anything better." Kaede admitted. Her thoughts were on Kazumi at that moment, which was why she had seen a bit of red.
"To be honest, I don't know if I should really give you a punishment." the headmaster said honestly. "On the one hand, you hurt other girls. On the other hand, this is your first day at school and you stood up for someone."
Kaede nodded in confirmation, as she could understand his views.
As principal, she probably wouldn't know what to do either. "Fine by me, I'll write a ten-page apology or something..." Kaede suggested on her own initiative, causing the principal to raise an eyebrow.
He remembered the exam results for this school. As far as he had noticed, there was a girl who had written quite a few pages in an essay about Hyōgo and had explained why the Inarizaki would be best for her future. He gave a soft snort of amusement at this. Who would have thought that this very student would be standing in front of him on the first day of school.
"All right, I accept your offer." The principal nodded and was really looking forward to seeing what Kaede would write in these ten pages. "And I hope you've learned from this and will act differently in the future."
"I will do my best." Kaede bowed and was thus dismissed and could leave the office. In itself, the whole thing wasn't so bad.
"There you are." Chika, who had been waiting for her, smiled. "Is your punishment because of me very bad?" she asked her rescuer straight away.
"Nothing worth mentioning. And no, it's not your fault. I acted like that, not you. And as for the punishment...I think writing ten pages is pretty reasonable." Kaede explained the whole thing.
"Whaaaat? Ten pages?" Chika asked, stunned, which made Kaede laugh slightly. "That's actually nothing for me. My last essay was even longer." she admitted, amused.
"That means you like writing?" asked Chika, who had walked along with the brown-haired girl who wanted to go to class. "It's my hobby."
"That's pretty good. I read a lot. So if you need an opinion on a text, you can ask me for one." Chika offered, beaming, which made Kaede look at her a little. From the looks of it, she didn't have to worry about Chika. This gray-haired girl really was the complete opposite of Kazumi.
