The last day of school before the vacations had begun, during which the teachers didn't give many lessons anyway. Many students said goodbye to their friends and gave them their report cards. The third graders from the clubs had presented their final projects that day, as had been the case in Megumi's Club.
The music club had prepared a small concert for the whole school, which was very well received. Only a few clubs had mingled with the crowd walking around in the corridors. Among them was Kaede, who had been looking at some artworks with Megumi and Chika.
On the walls were some lists of the students who had graduated with the highest marks. One of them was Kita, whom the second-graders had expected anyway. Kita had always been good at school and had a few fans. However, he had never shown much interest and politely rejected some of the girls, who left him alone afterwards.
"Look who we have here." Kaede heard a familiar voice and stopped in the corridor to look. Five girls were standing at a distance, close to Chika, who was a little further behind her. Kaede, who had twitched her finger slightly, swallowed briefly, while Megumi almost wanted to hide.
"I'd love to know if you still have that ugly, dirty face when you graduate." said the girl spitefully, who wanted to have another joke with her friends and mob Chika. You might have expected it.
Leaving Megumi standing there, who had slowly followed, Kaede approached her new best friend. The gray-haired girl had remained relatively quiet and looked her bullies straight in the eye. Not like the last time, when she really could have almost cried.
Breathing could be heard, which appeared before any words could be heard. Chika, who had recognized her best friend, raised her hand. "It's okay, Kaede. You don't have to say anything." She spoke calmly and received a slightly puzzled look. "That's my business. You did enough last time."
"Ah, I remember. You threw your things at us." , spoke the leader, who had automatically grabbed the place that was hit. "I have respect for you, little Tokoyami. But this is no longer your business."
Kaede knew that. However, Chika was still important to her. But she didn't appear to feel hurt. It was probably because she had always accepted herself as she was and had simply needed the last push.
"Say what you like. But I feel very comfortable with my face. I'd rather have a few imperfections than look like a doll. Because... there are people who like and love me the way I am." Chika spoke without embarrassing any of the girls. She simply said what she was feeling at the moment. A fact that she has had to learn over the last two years.
"Is that so?" her counterpart asked immediately, coming a little closer to her. "Yes, and I have Kaede, Megumi, Kenma and a few others to thank for that." Chika replied. "Bully me all you want. Insult me with whatever you want. As long as I have real friends by my side, I'm starting to really not care."
Kaede was surprised. Chika had really developed very well and was starting to fight back herself. Very politely, but it was no longer necessary to help her. The only thing missing for her was Megumi, who would have to manage against her classmates. And that without Atsumu.
"Tch..." came from the girls, who had probably failed. Apparently they wanted to beat Chika up one last time so badly that she would cry. But Chika had a better character and didn't let herself get involved. Something Kaede would have wished for Kazumi.
