In the first few days, Kaede had a pretty big and full head. At the beginning, the lecturers tried to explain everything relatively well and slowly, but this quickly subsided. There were a lot of students sitting next to Kaede, who barely kept up with the Japanese language.
Kaede had an advantage here and was able to write down the tasks that were set quite quickly and answer them. Kaede tried to explain everything as simply as possible so that her comrades would have a better understanding.
This meant that Kaede quickly became one of the most popular students. A status that she didn't really understand, but had simply accepted. At least until older students became aware of her.
The bad luck, however, was that Kaede was not easy to bully. This attempt had failed fairly quickly, which had of course earned her respect again. Only this time it wasn't girls who had tried to fire against her. Kaede didn't care about young men who wanted to be called senpai by her.
"Why should I call you Senpai?" Kaede asked when they once again stood in her way and addressed her. Next to her and her locker were several students from different semesters and subjects that she had never seen before. Kaede couldn't remember all their faces anyway. Why should she? She didn't want to get too close to them, as she already had very good friends.
"Firstly, because we're older than you. Secondly, because we can help freshmen like you." , a blonde-haired man reasoned, which Kaede thought was stupid.
"Firstly, I don't care if you're older. Secondly, I don't need any help from people like you." Kaede replied calmly. Before anyone could say anything in reply, Kaede started again.
"Why would I need help from someone I don't know and have nothing to do with? Besides, you are third-year students studying natural sciences. So I don't need any help from people like you, since you have no idea how to write your names in kanji anyway."
"Excuse me!?" came loudly from the blonde-haired man, who came closer to her. "Have some respect for us!" he hissed. If he spoke a little more provocatively, he could easily become a rival for Atsumu.
Unfortunately, he didn't even have that kind of attitude. Atsumu showed respect to many people, even if it didn't always come across that way.
"Shouldn't you also show respect?" Kaede asked back. "I'm just saying what I think and what I think of you. What you make of it is up to you. But I won't call you senpai just because you ask me to. So, please get out of my way now and leave me in peace." Kaede asked at the end, as she didn't want to be reprimanded here at the university.
Because not a single lecturer or principal here would tolerate a ten-page apology.
