To prevent the situation from becoming even more embarrassing, Kaede had changed the subject again and said that they should go out for something to eat. After all, Kaede had had a lot to do in the last few hours and had hardly been able to eat.
Megumi, who couldn't be at today's match, had asked via chat how the autograph session had gone. Pretty nice of her, even though she was working on her new drawings. But like Chika, she had stopped writing again straight away. Through Atsumu and her studies, Megumi had really gained a lot of self-confidence.
Unfortunately, she hadn't seen much of him herself because of her studies. After all, Atsumu had to take part in a lot of matches. As a result, Kaede hadn't had any contact with Osamu, who was running alongside her.
"Now I understand your reaction a little better when you ran away from Chika." Osamu addressed her gently. "I didn't think Kazumi really looked that much like her."
"It wasn't easy to write about." Kaede admitted and more or less left it at that. Thanks to the novel, Osamu must now know very well how she had felt since middle school. Well, apart from the death of her mother.
"I believe you. But I hate Daisuke, Dai that is, because of what he said to you." Osamu admitted honestly. Yes, that situation back then really wasn't easy or good. "Yes...I thought so..." In the end, Kaede had decided to portray Daisuke exactly as Dai had behaved. Making herself public after about three years and putting her real name on the new editions had been the right decision for her.
Silence fell over the two of them again as they walked past a small group who were laughing. "Did you see her face? Really disgusting." one of them said, causing Kaede to stop and slowly turn around.
Her breathing quickened a little, while her heart stopped for a moment. Her brown-green eyes focused on the young women her age. "Kaede?" Osamu asked anxiously next to her when she stopped.
He had certainly heard the comment. However, he didn't know who it was about and hadn't really been listening. But the way Kaede looked, it had taken her back to school. As if in slow motion, or so it seemed to him, Kaede ran straight towards the group.
"Aren't you ashamed of yourselves?! Haven't you learned from the last time?!" Kaede exclaimed, causing Osamu's eyes to widen and run to her. The women Kaede had shouted at turned to her, slightly startled.
"How can you still talk about someone?! Have you forgotten what you've done?!" Kaede continued to shout, close to tears.
"Ah, Kaede, it's you." the middle woman now spoke softly. "You took it so far that Kazumi killed herself!" she accused the whole group, which is why Osamu now knew exactly how Kaede must be feeling right now and how she was acting. So these women had been the people who had bullied Kazumi.
"How can you still go on like this...?!" the brown-haired girl asked in a sad and tearful tone, causing Osamu to automatically put his arm around her.
"We're sorry about what happened to Kazumi, yes. But we never thought she would throw herself off a roof because of that." another woman admitted. "You simply have no brains!" Kaede said angrily, knowing that it wouldn't help any more. Despite everything, Kazumi would never return. It had been ten years now, which was still painful to think about, but now bearable.
Nor did Kaede think that she would meet these perpetrators in a place like this. It made her think of everything. But it also gave her the chance to talk to them again. Well, more like a chance to speak her mind, because she hadn't had the heart to do so in middle school.
"You..." "Kaede, let's go..." Osamu spoke softly, not wanting her to freak out any more and harm herself. "And you'd best go." he said to the group of women, who had lowered their heads briefly to apologize to Kaede with this gesture before they left.
It was a moment that had done Kaede good and she could finally show her tears to someone she loved and they wouldn't shout at her for her emotions, but would simply take her in his arms.
