Kaede had paid less attention to her novel over the next few months, as she wanted to concentrate more on her grades. At least as best she could, as it wasn't exactly easy to find a course of study that she would be happy with. After the summer vacation, the teachers had already distributed some flyers about the various courses of study, which Kaede had read through carefully.
Of course, she had read everything else on the Internet, but she wanted to know if there was anything on a flyer that might interest her. So there was no room for the high school student to write her novel at times like this.
She had ideas. However, Kaede put everything on the back burner and simply wrote down everything she could. She only sat down at her laptop for a few minutes in between, while homework or studying for exams were over, and continued writing the chapters as best she could.
However, the fact that she couldn't concentrate so well on it meant that she often gave up and didn't touch her laptop for a while. Chika understood this too, as she had received fewer and fewer texts to read through. She wasn't exactly any better herself and tried to concentrate on her future.
"And what are you working on, Megumi?" the gray-haired girl asked after a longer examination as the friends made their way to the cafeteria. "Hm, maybe something to do with art or something. I think I'm strongest in that direction." , pondered the black-haired girl, who wasn't as insecure about this subject as she was about other small things.
"And you?" the Hayashi asked back, as she was really interested. "Difficult. With my grades, I could do pretty much any degree program. I know that I study too much and that it's more because of my parents. But I'm still not quite sure what I'm interested in." Chika admitted honestly.
"How about being a doctor or something?" Megumi asked about her grades. "Hm, not so much. I'd hardly have time to read books or pursue my hobby of gambling." The young woman grinned, which made Kaede smile slightly. She just wanted to continue gambling with Kenma and wouldn't pursue such a profession because of that?
"What did you read up on?" Chika asked her best friend, even though it was already clear to her. "Japanese studies." Kaede said, causing her friends to tilt their heads slightly questioningly. Perhaps Kaede should have thought that the two of them didn't exactly know what this was about.
"To explain it precisely, Japanese studies is very broad. You learn a comprehensive knowledge of the Japanese language, as well as a lot about the country's history, culture and society. This course lasts around eight semesters, during which you can also choose a minor in book studies," Kaede explained as best she could. "So in simple terms, that means I'm studying something so that I can become a writer."
"We could have guessed that..." muttered Chika, who could have guessed it. But of course she hadn't thought much about this course of study.
"It's not exactly easy, which is why my father doesn't exactly approve of it. I don't think he says that because he doesn't trust me, but because he's afraid I might regret it." spoke Kaede, who had taken some food and put it on her tray.
"Why regret it?" Chika asked. "I'm writing my own book, but what about afterwards? Do I still want to continue writing, or would I take a different path after the novel? Actually, I could also work in a museum or somewhere else after this course, as I'm learning the subjects. But you never know what will happen in the end, do you?"
"You're right..." the Hatori mumbled to herself. Kaede was really thinking about a lot of things. Perhaps she should think more about what exactly she wanted to do. "You'll manage." The gray-haired girl smiled and was still sure that Kaede would go her own way.
