Alex pushed a new round of bullets into the chamber in the gun, hiding himself amongst the bushes and trees, using their shadows that they were throwing on the ground to his advantage. Elle was right behind him, as his backup as usual. His clothes were caked in dirt and grass bits, but Alex was too used to it to even care. All they had to do was to find time to travel to the river after this mission, with the four remaining Assassins.
It had been three days since the invasion had started, and tons of men were already being killed on purpose by the British, just to scare the citizens, and it was definitely working. Nobody stayed out on the streets anymore, even the black market was painfully empty. It had taken the Assassins a bit of time to find the location where the men were pulled out to kill, the British killing fields, but they had made it here at last, and they were positive that they were at the right place.
Around twenty American men were standing in a long row right in front of their eyes, in front if a huge freshly dug ditch, with blindfolds over their eyes, preventing them from seeing what was happening. Some of them were shaking with fear but some of them insisted on keeping their chin up high, not trying to show the British any fear. Alex wanted it to stop now, to get the Americans home safely now, but they had to remember to exercise caution in rescuing the men.
The British were already preparing to kill them, pushing all the bullets into the chambers, getting ready to spill blood, like as if it did not bother them at all. Guns were loaded and placed on tables, by the soldiers, so that they could kill the American men quickly, using gun after gun of fully filled guns. They chatted excitedly in their heavy accents, none of them noticing the Assassins' presence amongst them, which was going to their downfall very soon.
A flash of light came into Alex and Elle's view from the far right. That was Chrissy's signal, something that they had discussed earlier before making their way over here. Alex begun to count down for ten seconds in his head, swinging his gun downwards to aim at the commander of this British troop. They were supposed to all shoot at fixed, appointed timings, so that the others knew that it was one another shooting.
The moment the countdown ended, Alex did not wait, doing just as he was supposed to, and squeezed the trigger immediately, aimed for one of the British soldiers standing in plain sight. The proud British commander was down instantly, blood pouring from the bullet lodged deep in his spine, his entire being collapsing onto the ground, his face hitting the ground first.
Another gun shot was heard from the right, and two men fell to the ground as well. That was Chrissy's piece of work, she always liked shooting with her stronger guns, to get two people with one single bullet. The rest of them could not really be bothered into doing that.
The British took a while to realize that they were under attack, and tried to take cover, but the Assassins had it covered already, after all, when Sam and Kurt scoured the place, they never left any possibilities out.
Alex started dismantling the sniper gun and putting it in its case while taking his smaller gun out, turning the safety off on it. Elle was in front of him, preparing to take her first shot, eyes already trained on a target, Alex could tell. He brought the small gun up, and pulled the trigger, and saw a man go down clutching his leg. He lowered the gun.
From the corner of his eye, Alex saw Chrissy emerging from the trees, two large guns in her hands. He was amazed, for the total weight of those two guns weighed a lot, and she was carrying and walking briskly with them like it was no problem to her at all. Even Alex knew that he would struggle under that kind of weight, which was why he had holsters everywhere for him to store his guns, for he could hold them in his hands. Exactly how much did that girl work out?
The British tried to fight back upon finally coming to terms that they were being attacked on, guns firing blindly in their general direction. But Kurt had spent so long preparing this attack, it was finally that all the effort was put into use. He always checked places really thoroughly, it was mainly how he had managed to survive for so many years, because he was careful, yet reckless at the same time.
