Alex turned around, pulling Elle to the ground with him instinctively as the gun shot slowly faded out. Sam and Kurt, who were about to leave the group and go into the gambling den under Chrissy's instructions, turned around, filling their guns with bullets swiftly, turning to look at who had fired the bullet. Chrissy straightened up, frowning as the sound of sharp boots came closer. Alex and Elle got up from their crouched position, getting their guns at the ready as well.
" Stop there, or we'll shoot, " the British soldier said, pointing his small gun at them.
Alex nearly laughed out loud. One of him, against five of them? Not a chance, not a chance. It was not that the Assassins were arrogant, but they knew the extent of their abilities. And this puny man could be easily taken out, there was nothing to be afraid of. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Chrissy smirking as well. He knew that she harbored the same thoughts as his. These five had not fought for more than a decade for nothing.
" Assassins, lower your guns, do as I say now, or I will shoot you," the British soldier said, his voice still quivering from fear. Alex could see his entire body shaking. He was going to die, and it would not be long now. So silly. If he had just decided to leave them alone, he would have survived. No one should attempt to tackle the entire group of Assassins alone.
Alex begun to lower his gun slightly. As his hands passed one of his pockets, he took out a small dagger. For such a puny man, there was no need to raise attention with the gun shots. The last thing they needed was for this one man to grow into a large group of a hundred. Then, they really would have no chance of winning.
Waiting only one second, to get a sense of the current wind direction and strength of it. This was a crucial step with almost weapon used at a distance. Alex brought his arm back and sent the small knife spinning through the air, twisting his body as he threw it to ensure that the speed and thrust was enough to not only reach the soldier, but to enter his flesh and slice through important blood vessels.
The British man did not even have time to prepare himself for the knife coming at him. Within seconds, it had hit home, lodging itself deep within his neck. The soldier dropped his gun with a metallic clatter, falling backwards, one hand clutching at his wound, blood leaking through his fingers. Elle barely gave the soldier a second glance, he was too foolish to even be alive in a world like this. Alex was simply doing the world a favor by killing him tonight.
Alex ran forward to retrieve his knife, using the blood of the soldier and his fingers to write the alphabet 'A' right beside him. Wiping his knife clean of blood on his shirt, Alex put it back in his pocket, picking up the gun the soldier was using as well. More weapons were always better. He turned around and walked back to Elle's side, staring at the soon-dead body on the floor.
" Puny soldier," Kurt commented, shaking his head, light brown locks of hair falling over his light eyes. He begun rolling up his sleeves, showing off his trademark tiger tattoo on his arm. Kurt used the tip of his shoe to kick at the man, examining the soldier properly.
" If someone does not come back by ten at Alex and Elle's house, it means we take it that you're dead," Chrissy sternly reminded them of the mission, drawing all their attention away from the struggling soldier on the floor.
Alex took in a deep breath, he hated it whenever Chrissy said that, even though he knew that it was necessary. It just meant that, by hook or by crook, that was the longest they would wait for the last person to fall in. If somebody did not fall in by that time, it was up to them whether they would want to search for their missing member or whether they would just accept that their friend was dead already.
Alex and Elle shared a worried look between them, as they did whenever they heard Chrissy say it. They were best friends, forming a strong alliance since they had been left behind by their dead parents during the purge more than a decade ago. They had spent their entire lives together. What happened if one of them died? Maybe tonight? Tomorrow? A week later? The kind of life they were living in meant that anyone could die at any time, in any way. Recovering a dead body was hard enough.
