Sam entered the gambling den he ran, glancing at the people playing with their money at the various tables. He had made a visit to his closet, to change out of his dirty and torn clothes. His usual sunglasses covered his eyes as they always did.
He could not disappear from the gambling den for too long, otherwise the soldiers might notice his absence. Sam randomly strolled to a table, watching as his employee shuffled the deck of cards sloppily.
" Let me do it, Finn," Sam offered, taking the deck of cards in his hand.
Finn handed it over to him. Sam arranged the cards on the table, before beginning to shuffle it in his hands. The cards flew through carefully, the cards slotting themselves randomly. The art of shuffling cards was an essential skill Sam had to pick up since young.
" Thanks sir," Finn apologised sheepishly, adjusting his bow tie around his neck.
Sam placed the respective cards down on the poker table, and the game swung into full force once again.
Finn was watching him oddly, squinting slightly, as if attempting to figure something out. Sam did not bother about him, just moving on to another table. He took out a cigarette from his pocket, offering it to one of the men at another poker table.
Finn tapped on Sam's shoulder.
" I have to talk to you, in private, " Finn said. His voice sounded strained and slightly constricted, his face a deathly pale, as if he might pass out any moment.
With his hand ready to grab his gun, Sam opened the door to his office room, sitting down opposite the young employee.
" What seems to be the matter today?" Sam questioned, folding his arms over his chest.
Finn chewed down on his bottom lip, fingers fiddling with a button on his shirt. Sam watched as a bead of sweat trickled down the young man's face, dripping down on his shirt.
" I am a loyal supporter of the Assasins. They are our protectors, I listen to their radio broadcasts all the time," Finn started.
Sam slid the gun out from its holder on his belt, preparing to turn the safety off any moment. He had no idea what Finn was trying to imply, but if he was a spy, ready to expose his identity, Sam had to kill him, as much as he liked the determination the young man had.
" This morning, Shadow Huntress made a broadcast. She told us to kill any soldier, that the male of the Nightmare Pair was injured and off duty," Finn continued.
Sam sighed, moving his sunglasses to the top of his head.
" Get to the point, Finn."
Finn's eyes widened, and he swallowed saliva uncertainly. He adjusted his bow tie again, running another hand through his short hair.
" Are you Lightning, sir?"
Sam took his gun out and put it on the table, the barrel pointed at Finn. Finn looked alarmed, and wanted to back away. The chair nearly tipped over with him in it, but Finn caught himself in time.
" Who are you working for? The British? " Sam demanded to know.
Finn cowered in a corner, with his hands over his head. His entire small frame was shaking and quivering. Sam looked at him for a while, before keeping his gun in the holder again.
" Shadow Huntress would want me to kill you, but I'm not going to do it," Sam drawled, going back to his chair and sitting down, kicking his legs up on the table lazily.
Finn looked up at his boss.
" Is there a catch?"
Sam looked at his employee, before laughing.
