HIDE AND SEEK
All along, the human species knew that their species were getting too advanced for their own good. And that their extinction might be coming soon. They had reached their peak in intelligence, and something was bound to happen, maybe a war or something. That was how things developed and new discoveries were made to push mankind further into higher intelligence, as much as mankind hated to admit.
The change had all started in America, the change that rocked the earth and would be remembered in the future history books to come. The revolutionary change that changed the lives of so many human beings, paved a new way for people.
It had happened all of the sudden, with what was said to be three different murderers striking at the same time, killing off human after human consistently. The police could not find them, and panic soon spread throughout the entire country. Every day, another death was reported, or someone was found to be missing. It was chaotic, the country was a total mess.
People were dying to this reckless murderers everyday, but the police could do nothing about it. They left behind too little clues for them to follow properly, the murderers were just too good for them. Alex was just three in age while all this gore and horror unfolded in front of his eyes, his young eyes and pure memory forever scarred by the horror he had witnessed.
Blood, guts and gore were splattered all over the pavements and buildings, coating the floor more than the tiles did. People were found occasionally slumped over in corners that people would never expect, with blood pooling on their shirts, sometimes with the knives sticking out of their abdomens. It was not a good place at all.
Young Alex had tried to go to the playground once, despite his mother's warnings, only to find his best friend, hanging off the monkey bars. His school tie held him to the metal rail above him, and a blade was stuck deep in his ribs. Alex had never ran that quickly away from his friend.
The people of America quickly got angry at the incompetency of the government, and then, law and order all disappeared down a manhole. No one gave a damn about the law or the rules and crimes were starting to happen everywhere. Schools had to be shut down, as shooter after shooter invaded it, looking for revenge for their own lost family. Students left to stay with their families.
There was no law, there was no order, and everyone was left running wild.
Alex was way too young back then to truly have been able to understand much of what was going on in the world around him. But all that he knew, was that it was all terribly vile, evil and wrong, and that he was slightly afraid of it. This society was not the same one he had originally grown up in. Things were changing, and they were changing fast.
More and more people died then, and it was turning into a global catastrophe. People from America went to other countries with their guns, because there were no more proper security checks. Every country was soon thrown into a huge mess. Law disappeared because the people did not care about it anymore. They wanted to take care of the society themselves because the law seemed to be clueless in what to do. Why follow the law if they believed that they could handle things themselves?
From one country, it turned into a global catastrophe with every passing second. More and more deaths were being accounted for in the daily news, to the point where they could not read out every name anymore. Alex's parents did not even allow him to go out soon after, confining him in the concrete walls of his home. Alex only watched the world from his window, and only briefly, before his parents pulled him away from the window and pulled the blinds down.
Snipers might think that he was worth shooting if they spotted him by the window. Well, that was what his father said. Alex had never stayed at the window for so long to let a sniper shoot him. His parents simply did not let him.
