Elle saw men surrounding Eric's home, all laden with heavy and huge guns. She was not too far away, with her new gun supplies in a bag over her shoulder.
There was something weird about what she was seeing now, and she felt it right in her gut. Eric was old, not even a possible threat with his illness. This arrangement was uncalled for.
Creeping closer, Elle saw a flicker of movement from the house curtain. Somebody was running around inside. Someone stronger, faster, and taller than Eric. Her heart pounded.
Her eyes registered the tight shirt the man was wearing, along with the vague shadow of the gun he carried. Elle's heart nearly skipped a beat. There was no mistaking it.
The person in the house was Alex.
" Why did that little shit not notice the soldiers following him?" Elle said with a sigh, drawing her gun. Ten soldiers stood there.
The lights in Eric's home switched off abruptly.
One of the soldiers near the window fell backwards. Elle saw blood flowing from a cut on his neck. Alex had thrown one of his sharp metal circles, which he rarely used because it was so hard to find.
A metal circle was basically a thin circle of metal, with edges sharp enough to penetrate the skin if tossed expertly. Alex was definitely in there. He had invented the metal circle.
Elle shot down two soldiers, aware of the loud racket she was making with every gun shot. A window was smashed, and Alex was briefly seen, before he ducked away.
The soldiers exploded in a whole ton of bullets, all aimed at the house. One of them tried to kick the door down. Elle shot him down.
Someone had came out of the back door, surprising Elle. The house was cornered. What was Alex doing?
Bullets were incessantly fired at him, blood dripped from his arm. But he did not stop running, occasionally turning around to shoot one soldier down. Elle cleaned up the rest of the soldiers with her accurate shots.
Alex looked at her direction, only fear and pain in his clear eyes. She emerged from the shadows, keeping her gun aside.
" What the fuck, how could you not notice them?" Elle shouted. Alex had to stop being so careless, first the sniper, now this," You could have gotten Eric killed!"
Alex sighed, fatigue only visible on his features. He looked so drained and tired, as if he was not paying any attention to her at all.
Elle squinted at him, walking faster towards him.
" Why are you not wearing your bulletproof vest?" she demanded to know.
Up close, Elle could see how tired he really was. Blood kept flowing from a bullet wound in his arm, he was losing blood fast. She grabbed his wrist, keeping him close to her.
Alex was almost too tired to keep his body up right. Blood stained his clothes. His guns and other weapons had been sloppily placed back into their places, instead of his usual neat quality.
" I had to prevent Eric and his grandson from getting shot," Alex weakly responded. His knees nearly gave way. Elle pulled him back up instantly.
Eric opened the back door, with a small child at his legs, handing Elle Alex's bulletproof vest. He smiled at her weakly, before going back in his house.
Elle had no idea what time it was, but she knew that they had to get back to their home soon. She grabbed Alex firmly, forcing him to wear his bulletproof vest.
Her hand swept back his matted hair. It was only then did she feel the heat on his forehead. Her hand drew back immediately, staring at her best friend in utter shock and disbelief.
